Battle For The Raise

For a free game that's similar to the first battles in Pokemon, this is pretty fun. Once you get past level 10 and figure out how to win the minigames, its basically a grind for achievements from there. No reason to lose, and you don't even need to you the items. Good for an hour of entertainment. If the developer expands on it, I would play it again.

To be honest, I did not like the replayability since there was too much repetition. It would be more fun to maybe fail and have a game mode around upgrading your skills and beating the CEO at the end. After the first and second time, it already felt repetitive and without a goal. Fun game for an hour that is free and works flawlessly on Steam Deck.

Battle For The Raise is a really silly idea, but I think that is exactly why I gave it a chance. I am basically trying to climb the corporate ladder by fighting managers in turn based battles, except my attacks are arguments based around logic, emotion, data and sarcasm. The whole thing is presented like a strange office version of a Pokemon style RPG, and I like how committed it is to the joke. My goal is simple. I have to defeat all the managers and earn a raise, and the game keeps giving me more ridiculous reasons to keep going. The actual battles are simple enough to understand, but there is a little more going on than I expected. The four argument types have different strengths and weaknesses, so I have to pay attention to what I am using rather than just picking the biggest attack every turn. I can also use items such as coffee, energy drinks and HR complaint forms, while status effects like burnout and confusion can change how a fight goes. I like this because it gives the battles a small amount of strategy without making me sit there reading a huge rulebook.
