The game has a lot of heart, and the base gameplay is a good and engaging. It's a brick breaker where you take time, think things through, and then hope for the best. The characters are pretty loveable, and the plot is ok. Each weapon feels different, and affects gameplay in unique ways. It's a relatively unique game, and worth playing, though maybe not to the finish. The game definitely suffered from lack of resources though, and a few poor decisions that led to some grind. Itemization starts good, but gets grindy. When you kill beasts, you get essence, and you use that to build or upgrade weapons or weapon components. However, you don't know what weapon you'll get. That's fine for the complete weapon, but by the time you're unlocking single components there's a massive sheet full of material needs, and you can't even tell which of the powers you've already unlocked that you're going to get. Spending more materials for no power boost and a bit of customizeability that frequently turns into something you don't want to use kinda sucks. It's like you get a power downgrade mid game. Then they build in grinding. You have to grind fame to unlock the next level, whic…2 found this helpful
An under-appreciated gem! Do you like Peggle, pinball, and a bit of strategy? This is an absolutely charming game that's extremely easy to control and play but conceals a lot of depth and fun to actually master. Bounce around, bonk monsters, and experiment with different equipment for wildly different strategies. Stellar character designs (including
a cockatiel!!
) and writing only make it better and do a lot to build the world without feeling heavy-handed. My only real complaint is that I wish the game had some more helpful information during the beast tracking sequences to help me understand what tools I should be building and that I could swap my loadout before the fight. Just learning about the creature doesn't tell me exactly what the right tool for the job is, and going into a battle with the wrong tools can make fights feel protracted when I wish I had a chance to go back and just re-adjust. Especially rough when I just have the _wrong_ weapon for the particular beast! I played this on Switch and have far more hours there than on Steam. So nice to finally have it here too and replay it.2 found this helpful
Charming but unbalanced, Beast Breaker sure hooked me. It has a great art style, awesome music, and a cool combat mechanic. Ricochet-based sword battles! I had to try it, and the demo won me over. The game kept me engaged until about the fourth hour, when I found a weapon loadout that worked. Every. Single. Time. After the third area, I never lost a battle. The player has zero incentive to change weapons or use different techniques. I found the sword the only weapon in the game worth using. Bow and arrow is pathetically weak, and the hammer has fuzzy logic. Knives are better—at least they do damage every time, but again, no reason not to use the sword. A simple way to fix this would have been for certain beasts to be weak to certain weapon types, so you know what to equip before heading out. Being able to change weapons during battle could have been an option, too. As-is, sword works against everything, so why change tactics? Each beast you face has weaknesses, but these are not decisive in battle. You can apply elements, but these are unnecessary, too. Combat is not balanced, so past the third area, Beast Breaker becomes a mindless grind. There’s still some good here…1 found this helpful
Very fun and cute! Try the demo. Apparently, this came out 5 years ago, which surprised me because I'd never heard of it before. Then I found out why. It was exclusive to EGS. Shame the devs didn't go for a wider audience with Steam and GoG instead of the AI focused mess that is Epic.
woodland fantasy with a sci-fi twist, wonderful little game to sink your fangs into if you enjoy games that are both fairly simple with a pleasant smorgasbord of tools to play around with. i have strong feelings for the sidekick character Echo that cant be written out on a review, but when you see who i'm talking about you'll understand
This game has a lot of charm! Very fun combat with cute characters, a nice story, and plenty of mechanics to fight with. Also the music is excellent!
