Beastieball

I LOVE THIS GAME!! Beastieball is actually one of my favorites now and I can't wait to see it once it's out of Early Access. I've been playing it so much and I bought the soundtrack too. It combines my favorite parts of Pokemon with sports tactics. Beasties can build relationships with each other the more they play together, which opens up different combo attacks. Pro tip if you're new: For shiny/raremorph hunting, the Beasties you walk around with will emit speech bubbles with sparkles, and the raremorph Beasties will sparkle too. On some of the maps like the Solanum Weald, the different Beasties may be harder to see, so keep an eye out for the speech bubbles.

Gameplay feels surprisingly slow for a volleyball inspired game

This game is incredible and if all you’re looking for is enough people saying ‘yes’ to buy it then consider this a sign. If you want a bit more nuance, please read on. First the good which is easy and basically consists of me pointing to the whole game. Really fun battle mechanics that encourage planning and team building. This feels like it was made by someone who loves pokemon doubles and wanted to create a battle system that can provide a satisfying challenge. Planning out a play and figuring out how to allocate points and moves is so much fun. I spent hours putting a team together and loved every second of it. The music is pretty consistently excellent, which is good cuz you’re gonna be hearing the same tracks a lot. There are plenty of qol features that feel inspired by what pokemon lacks including ways to change a beastie’s ability and swap out learned moves at will. Shiny odds can be boosted too, so putting together a shiny team feels difficult but doable, especially if you’re willing to fill out the pokedex. Now to the negatives. I can't imagine a better creature collector. Like a version of pokemon where they never smothered the magic
