Beasts of Maravilla Island

Beasts of Maravilla is one of those games that is not sure what genre it fits. It is part exploration, part photography, part creature collecting and part puzzling. It would have been wonderful for those locked down in the Covid period with a bright, colouful fantastical world to explore! You play Marina, an aspiring wildlife photographer and you discover your Grandfather's journal about the Maravilla Island whose legends were narrated to you as a young child. As you land on the island, you discover that its protective magic is fading and you want to help it out. This is an island with fantastical creatures not found anywhere else and you log it all in your photo book. The island has 3 distinctive areas: The Singing Jungle; The Glimmering River and the Painted Plateau. Each ecosystem has objectives to fulfil and this requires you to interact with some of the bigger animals including a cheeky otter-crocodile; a lovesick bird-monkey and the fearsome cat-griffin. The many creatures are unique and you have to explore and find them all. The singing Jungle was very noisy and I had to lower the sound as it gave me a headache! Beasts of Maravilla Island is very cute. It's a good collection game with unique animals. My only complaint is that it's very short. There's only three levels. I would like to see more environments in the future.

I really enjoyed playing this game. A young woman returns to a mysterious island her grandfather explored when he was younger. Your job is to capture photos of all the different flora and fauna on the island, including documenting certain behaviors from the larger animals. As you explore, you discover that some wrongness seems to have befallen the island that perhaps only you can make right... This was a very fun, low key, low stress game to play. I had a blast filling up my photo book. You can take different pictures of the same species and then decide which photo to display as your main picture in your photo book (so you can retake pictures until you get the perfect one). The plants, animals, and insects in the game were extremely creative and whimsical, and I really enjoyed some of the bonus content you unlock once you complete each of the three environments (these are not playable content, just pretty sculptures of the wildlife you encountered, etc.) My one complaint is the game itself is a little buggy. Sometimes photos would not populate to the correct page, or would display under the wrong animal, etc. One time an environment got blacked out. There was also one se…

So far this is a really beautiful and fun game! there a few visual glitches like the pages showing the wrong pics but it eventually fixes itself

A cute collectathon - it's not difficult and it's not trying to be. I have no complaints about the gameplay. Every quibble I *do* have is about the writing or the biodiversity and they just aren't significant. It's a very pretty game! Nice, cohesive environments. Sometimes I had some problems with moving while my camera was out and I ran into one weird collision issue, but that was an edge case.

Hard not to recommend Beasts Of Maravilla, its a short relaxing game where you just explore the island and take photo's of bugs, flora and animals. It's on the very short side I got pictures of everything and enjoyed myself but beat it in 84 minutes. I didn't get all the achievements because unfortunately in my eyes, it doesnt have that replayability for me but none the less the first walkthrough was a nice chill time. The camera was a bit wonky and in fact was a lot easier to play in camera mode (I didn't and thanks to this I missed pictures of the island spirit creature). The last section is probably the part ill complain the most about since the puzzle revolved you taking agro from the creature, however, sometimes it just wouldnt work and it was so jank. Climbing stairs was proven to be very difficult for the character since I had to enter and leave camera mode to try and climb the last few stairs. All round its short, I'm sure you can get it pretty cheap either on sale or other official stores and honestly just relaxing to have a little playthrough on.
