Bees vs Zombees is a lively and inventive indie strategy game developed by Deadpixel and published by Nuntius Games and Vsoo Games that blends classic tower defense foundations with roguelike progression and a playful, pun-filled presentation. From the outset, the game makes its tone clear: this is a colorful, fast-moving defense experience where charm and strategy coexist, and where players are tasked with protecting their hive from relentless waves of zombified bees during a tongue-in-cheek apocalypse. Beneath its humorous exterior lies a surprisingly robust tactical framework that rewards planning, adaptability, and experimentation across repeated runs. The core gameplay revolves around defending your hive by selecting a Queen Bee and pairing her with an Artisan, a combination that defines your overall strategy for each run. Each Queen brings unique abilities that influence how you approach combat, whether by empowering allies, directly damaging enemies, or manipulating the battlefield in subtle ways. Artisans, on the other hand, determine the types of towers and defensive structures you can construct, shaping how you control space and manage incoming swarms. Very addictive tower defense. I like the variety the upgrade system brings to the table. Cute art and fun writing.
Really good idea for a Tower Defense game with roguelike mechanics. Sadly, it becomes quite repetitive pretty fast and there are some balancing issues. One character can single handedly win even the hardest of fights very early on, while the others require quite a lot of skill juggling and upgrades farming. Decent game to get on sale if you want some lightweight TD game for an evenging or two.
BvZ is a funny and cute little tower defence game that is close to being a fantastic one, but it needs more bug fixing, balancing and some quality of life options to reach its full potential. It uses roguelike/lite elements in a unique way in that the flowers/cards reset and they are random every time, but you get to select a biome, queen and artisan from the beginning. The last two affect the passives, active skills and turrets you get to use. You gradually unlock more options by doing specific things and completing biomes. The game’s style is on point, it’s expressive, recognisable and colourful. The music is the highlight with upbeat and catchy tunes. The game is hilarious with the artisans/queens you get to play with and the wordplay related to bees. The biomes are varied in looks and sometimes they have cool little unique gameplay gimmicks. The turrets and spell cards are satisfying to see in motion. The gameplay can be so fun at the best of times. In terms of flaws, it’s going to be easier to show a list: -Bug fixes. The game has a very nasty one where enemies don’t appear sometimes, ruining your entire run because you can’t save within biomes. This happened a couple of …
This is abysmally uninteresting. Rather than a labor of love, this is clearly something more akin to "pay people on fiverr and mechanical turk until I have something representing a game." The text is atrocious. The game is slow. The mechanics are random and uninspired.
