✦ AI summary

Players praise Beholgar as a fun retro-styled Metroidvania with solid combat and platforming that captures classic 8-bit charm, though some find it reminds them more of Castlevania than a true blend of both franchises. The main complaints center on technical issues like getting stuck in scenery, spelling errors, and the lack of a map in the first game—though players note these problems are less severe than they initially seem and that persistence pays off, especially with the sequel including the long-requested map feature. Most agree the game is worth playing despite its rough edges, particul

This is unfortunately a very unpolished mess riddled with bugs, some of which are game breaking like the one that occurs if you die while defeating the first boss. The default control scheme is also quite bad. Xbox controller's B for melee and X for special weapon is a very counterintuitive choice.

It's a bit rough around the edges, but overall, a very enjoyable old school platformer. The music is great.

10/10 The most important feature of the game is screaming "Beholgar!" as loud as you can whenever you do anything cool in the game.

An Old School Metroidvania that is great for fans of Retro new and old! It reminds me a lot more of Castlevania than a mix of Metroid and Castlevania. It's hard but in the right ways of a Metroidvania! 10/10 Sidenote: [strike] Use the Coyote time to your advantage [/strike] Use the air jump you can use after walking off an edge without first jumping to your advantage

I bought this game a while ago, tried to play thru it, but got frusterated because it is a Metroidvania without a map, which is a deal-breaker for me. I played it for less than 1 hour and gave up. So I put it aside for a while but decided to come back to it when I was going thru my backlog of unfinished games. The second time around, I stuck with it and I am glad that I did. Yes, it still doesnt have a map, but the rest of the game is pretty solid. It is a good combat, platforming, Metroidvania (or Castlevania if you will). After beating it on my Steam Deck, I also checked out the sequel: Beholgar 2, which I also very much enjoyed (AND Beholgar 2 has a MAP!!!!!). Do yourself a favour, look past some of this games' shortcomings and stick with this one, it will grow on you and also make you appreciate the improvements that were made for the sequel.

Behol-Bug?!?! - Its a fun game, I'll give it that; cool rich storyline, but much to be desired from it's potential final form! Just to put the ugly of the game on here: There are way too many bugs in the game it feels like it's almost in a beta version still. Do not roll under any platforms that allow you the space to roll under them or you stand up in the platform and lock the game out! Also jumping too high in the screen will make you fall out of bounds and a bunch of weird things happen at that point to where you're also "locked out." This can be an easy fix by adding extra platforms to not allow Beholgar to roll under and to close in the rooms to avoid jumping out of bounds, but still not done. I'll give it a thumbs up because it's still fun, but very annoying to actually get through it without glitching at many points in the game... save often is my best advice!
