It is a good game. I went into this expecting a fairly standard haunted-house walk, but it's really more of a psychological descent than a ghost story. You play someone returning to their childhood home in Miskolc, Hungary after the bank gives you a week to clear it out before auction, and what should be a simple job of packing up old belongings slowly turns into something much stranger as the house itself starts feeling wrong — rooms that don't match memory, hallways that loop back where they shouldn't, an unsettling sense that you can't fully trust what you're seeing. The pacing of that slow unraveling is genuinely well done, and the threat in the game does a nice job of feeling unpredictable without feeling cheap or unfair. That said, a couple things kept pulling me out of the experience. The stylized visual approach is moody by design, but for me it tips too far — large stretches of the game feel like you're peering through a thick fog, and the darkness isn't so much atmospheric as it is genuinely hard to navigate by. WHO HURT THE DEVS?! I don’t even know where to start with this game, honestly. I booted it up thinking “yeah yeah, spooky maze walking sim, I’ve seen worse.” Turns out I was catastrophically wrong. This thing doesn’t just scare you, it mentally waterboards you for hours. If you’ve played Labyrinthine, imagine that… then crank the tension up until your spine files a complaint. There’s no chill here. No safe moment. No “oh I can relax for a second.” You think you’re safe? Congrats, that’s exactly when the game decides to ruin your life. The sound design is straight-up evil and very unique. I caught myself turning around in real life. After 15 mins I had to turn on the lights lol And the story? Way bigger than I expected. This isn’t some 2-hour haunted house ride. It just keeps going. New areas, new horrors, new ways to make you question your life choices and why are you playing it on a Tuesday night after working the whole day. Honestly, I can’t even binge it. Not because I don’t want to, but because my nervous system files for resignation after like an hour. Replayability? Technically yes. Emotionally? For a first ever game this is super solid! My only gripe was the backtracking but otherwise it's really good! The story was intense and all makes sense by the end. I am looking forward to seeing what else Side Eyes Project comes up with!2 found this helpful
I went in expecting a small indie horror game… and ended up completely hooked. Beneath the Quiet: Where It Ends surprised me in the best way. What starts with something simple — packing your things after receiving a foreclosure notice — quickly turns into something much darker when you suddenly find yourself trapped in a research facility full of monsters. The core gameplay is built around exploration, puzzles, and constant pressure. [spoiler] You have to keep entering a code into a computer to prevent the whole place from going up in flames, while navigating a maze of corridors: reception, generator room, showers, labs, and more. [/spoiler] There are also vents you can use to escape or outsmart enemies, which adds a nice layer of strategy. You’re not completely alone either — a character named Alex guides you, while disturbing flashbacks about your father [spoiler] (who worked there and was involved in a toxic gas incident) [/spoiler] slowly unfold. What really stands out is how well everything comes together: The game can be stressful, but it never feels unfair or frustrating.
