About Big Band Survivors

In Big Band Survivors, you play as a musician battling hordes of strange monsters in 4 different arenas, designed by the alien orchestrators as a gladiatorial spectator sport.Everything adapts dynamically to the music, changing depending on choices you make in game. In true roguelite fashion, each run is unique mechanically, but also unique in its soundscape!
  • Fight the aliens, collect XP, level up your character. Doing so will let you upgrade or pick new instruments, improving your odds and attacks, but also affecting the music being played.
  • Keep an eye out for care packages sent by adoring fans as they can give you just what you need in a given moment, but be careful to stay clear of their landing zone.
  • Defeat one of the game's 10+ bosses to be rewarded with a relic, granting strong and often synergistic new abilities to your character.

After each run, win or lose:
  • Get rewarded with roses
  • Spend them between runs on powerful upgrades to help you survive longer
  • Get closer to earning 47 in-game achievements with exciting rewards!

It's sort of just worse Vampire Survivors with less characters, less weapons, less everything. The gameplay feels rather clunky and same-y, the weapons don't really feel interesting, and the changes to the background music (which are turned off by default) are way less noticable than I assumed based on the trailers. Not necessarily bad, but honestly, I'd rather just play Vampire Survivors.

It's fine. Feels most like Vampire Survivors compared to pretty much any other horde survivor. Very direct influence. The problem is how bare bones the gameplay feels. There's no skill modification or mutation. Upgrading your skills just gives more cast speed and projectiles. It's fine, just boring. It's just enough of an upgrade to complete the round, but the power goes nowhere. Incredibly basic and uninspired skill choices. Coupled with skills that are simply so much better than the others, there no reason to not just play the same build over and over. Just spam violin and drum machine and that's the whole game completed. Needs more content and better skill modification. Game also needs to zoom out more. It's clausterphobic. You can't see the top and bottom enough and just sometimes lose the round because an unseen wave just piles on top of you from off-screen.

As a fan of survivors I can say that Big Band Survivors gets some key needs right when it comes to these types of games. It is however lacking in the basics as in UI and just overall visual pop needed. The core gameplay is great and plays great. I currently mostly play on my Steam OS Legion Go S and it runs great. Visually it could benefit from some serious UI improvements in many areas. It is very difficult to see which item you are upgrading as the visual indication is nearly zero.. I hope some of these things are made better because it would not take much to really make this game pop like similar priced Survivor games. The music and vibe of the actual gameplay is great and worth picking up if you are a big Survivor Like gamer. Due to the price I can recommend this game for those that love these types of games... Fingers crossed the UI gets a make over and just overall visual shine in the menus. - Also big plus for having profile stats like total kills.. many of these games do not have that and I love that this one does have some stats to view.
