I've spent almost 3000 hours in bigscreen. It once was a great little VR community full of enthusiasts and all kinds of folk, watching movies, 3D movies, playing games, just chatting. It's honestly a good technology. But it's been ruined a lot of late by the VR market maturing, becoming available to loads of kids who obviously scream and ruin things. There's moderation tools but you need a really active host. I hope one day big screen will return to its former glory even though at peak it was never massive, and become great again. I've watched literally hundreds of movies and met some really great people here. It's free, I recommend it.2 found this helpful
This has been in beta for over 10 years now.
I remember this being very good, but in 2026 i cant even launch it. steam VR stops functioning all together for a good 30 seconds after launching and bigscreen crashed after that. I tried verifying game files, reinstalling, and a few other things, but this is non functional for me at time of posting.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | My Favorite Way to Hang Out in VR Bigscreen has become one of my favorite VR apps. Being able to host my own private room and watch movies, TV shows, or YouTube with my besties feels like we're all piled onto the same couch, even when we're miles apart. One of the biggest features for me is the ability to **lock my room**. Public VR spaces can be... chaotic. 😅 Kids screaming, people blasting microphones, and random trolls can completely ruin the vibe. With a locked room, it's just me and the people I actually invited. We get to relax, laugh, watch our shows, and enjoy the night without interruptions. The environments are cozy, the social experience feels natural, and it's honestly become one of our favorite ways to spend an evening together. If you're looking for a place to watch content with friends without dealing with the circus that public lobbies can sometimes become, Bigscreen absolutely delivers.
worst experince ever, gave me a virus.
In my short time in the app I only have a superficial glimpse of what the app can do ;-) - Play games with others (GeoGuessr in a room of 30 People is a blast ;-) or Jackbox games are also fun) - Watch a 3D movie with friends from all over the world (Streaming 3D from a desktop is soooo easy!) - Just sit and talk in a room with friends and listen to music via Youtube or watch a stream via Twitch with build in apps Since the app does have a server/client infrastructure, the load on ones internet connection is minimal. Upload of max 5MBit will serve up to 30 people. (Try this with VRChat !) And if you are in a room with 4 or less people, it's peer to peer and all of the people in there can share their screen with each other. Perfect for the quick collab on a work project or just playing MarioCart in multi player ;-) If you love to watch or share movies with others, this is still the ultimate app. Nothing comes close to the convenience and easy setup. Oh, did I mention it is completly for free !!!
