About Bionic Bay

The Swap Mechanic and Realistic Physics System

Central to Bionic Bay is an innovative swap mechanic and a realistic physics system. When combined, these offer a new way of interacting with the environment – from shifting gravity to interchanging positions with objects and adversaries, and to move, defend, or attack. But be careful not to burn, break, freeze, explode, or vaporize in the process.

An Ancient Biomechanical World

Plunge into an ancient, biomechanical world teeming with imaginative devices, mysterious technology, and peculiar inhabitants. Get lost in the vast sci-fi landscapes in gritty high-density pixel art style and suspenseful sound design that makes each biome distinct. Attempt to uncover the secrets of the ancient world.

Platforming Built for Speedrunning

Fluid movement and reactive physics make for high adrenaline and action-packed moments in each uniquely designed level. Creatively navigate around the many curious hazards by precisely executing the right combination of swaps and maneuvers. And perhaps… have a go at completing each level as fast as you can.

Online Mode: Competitive Speedrunning, Leaderboards, and Character Customization

Test your mastery in timed races against other players’ ghosts and leave them in the dust to claim the top spot on the leaderboards. Stay stylish while trying and recognizable on the boards using the in-game feature that lets you create your very own scientist. And through it all, remember not to rest on your laurels, as the Online Mode updates with new events regularly.

Bionic Bay is developed by two independent companies:

Mureena Finnish solo developer Juhana Myllys is responsible for art and design. Previous projects as an artist and a designer includes indie hits Badland and Badland 2. Psychoflow Studio Taiwanese indie game studio is formed by industry newcomers. This two man company is formed by programmers who are handling the technical side of Bionic Bay.

I expected a fairly classic platformer with familiar mechanics, but I was genuinely surprised once I got my hands on it. Beyond its strong visual direction, I really enjoyed the heavy, mysterious atmosphere and the mechanical environments. The scenery changes often enough to keep things fresh, with many nice and well-crafted place. The gameplay is very fluid and responsive, which is essential for this kind of game. There’s a great sense of physics and speed throughout. The puzzles and the way the game uses movement and abilities evolve nicely over time, offering good variety and a strong sense of pacing. The difficulty also feels well balanced, never too easy but rarely frustrating. In the end, even if some ideas aren’t entirely new, the way they’re combined works really well and results in a very enjoyable experience. Easy to recommend to fans of the genre and beyond.

This game's randomness frustrates me beyond reason

This is such a fun and wacky platformer. I love the space bending shenanigans and the floppy slidey elastic platforming. Highly recommend!

Awesome indie game. It went from Animal Crossing to Dark Souls levels of platforming and puzzles. Definitely would have another go at this one.

An ok game that overstays its welcome by probably 18%. Yes, if it was 18% shorter, it would be a better game. I have studied this intensely, don't doubt the research science denier!

This was a solid entry in whatever genre Inside/Little Nightmares games are. Cool art and atmosphere.
