[u]Ambition and Premise[/u] An ambitious indie visual novel that combines a cyberpunk corporate conspiracy, science fiction, romance simulation, and multiple-choice visual novel gameplay into something that is genuinely engaging despite its flaws. The unique and compelling premise centers on a permanently rain-soaked London in 2099, corrupt corporations, advanced nanotechnology, mysterious women, and a protagonist who finds himself drawn into events far larger than himself. [u]Strengths and Drawbacks[/u] The highlights are excellent cyberpunk atmosphere, an interesting blend of corporate thriller and romance simulation, multiple branching routes with meaningful choices, plenty of replay value, memorable soundtrack and artwork, several genuinely satisfying character endings, and an ambitious story. The flaws include a convoluted, uneven story, abrupt transitions, several characters who are difficult to sympathize with, and English voice acting that ranges from decent to unintentionally funny. [u]Story and Narrative[/u] The storytelling of a sci-fi thriller is rough but entertaining. The mystery surrounding Nanotech, Tanya, and the larger conspiracy was compelling, but…

Bionic Heart is a decent short visual novel set in the cyberpunk world of London 2099. The story is complex with 24 different endings and several subplots, and you can choose to move between locations, which adds a layer of interactivity. It’s fully voiced, which is a nice touch for immersion. While some characters can get a bit annoying, overall it’s an enjoyable experience.

In an effort to set up a BladeRunner feel, the developer goes too far with his politically correct humanity is a plague on the earth crap and ran me right out of the story. It didn't take long either! If you can get past the militant eco-messaging, the story has like 24 different endings depending on the choices you make. I wanted to like this story because of the many different endings, I wanted to see the story branch, but I could not. I'm willing to suffer an occasional militant eco-message to set a mood, but I will not subject myself to a non-stop harangue. Sorry, not sorry...the science IS NOT settled! Saying it louder or in this case, more often WILL NOT make it so! Admittedly, I did not get far in the story. What I did get through left me with the impression that this story was written for a younger audience, say middle schoolers. As such if felt like government propaganda designed to make the coming carbon credit taxes more palatable to us 'useless eaters.'
