About Synthetic Lover
In the year 2066, biologically engineered humanoids—‘biots’—make up a large percentage of the workforce.
The protagonist is one such biot and, like the rest of his colleagues, he lives to serve a single purpose: to fulfill his pre-programmed vocation. In his case, that is to be a companion in an adult entertainment center known as Dollhouse.
Servants exist as lifeless dolls until activated upon request, a biot’s self-awareness and free will are sealed off by design. That is how the protagonist’s days go until crossing paths with an opportunistic thief and a mysterious device in his possession…
Synthetic Lover is a sci-fi story about an individual who discovers the challenges of being human. During his journey, he navigates through the ups and downs of an imperfect life while trying to avoid conflict with a powerful organization, learning to understand emotions, forming friendships, and possibly finding love along the way.

🎮 Gameplay & Genre A sci-fi visual novel with BL/Yaoi romance and a strong narrative backbone. You’ll spend about 10–12 hours unlocking all achievements. There are two primary romance paths, and choices influence both story development and endings. No mini-games or RPG mechanics—just clean visual novel progression with depth. 🔥 M/M Content Explicitly M/M and emotionally resonant. The romance arcs are slow-burn, well-developed, and supported by steamy scenes that match the tone of the story. Two love interests—Bastian (hot-headed and passionate) and Rico (buttoned-up with hidden depth)—each offer meaningful emotional payoff. If you love redheads and bad boys with hearts of gold, Bastian may steal your soul. 🎨 Visuals & Style Stylish, sci-fi inspired art with striking character designs and detailed CGs. It’s polished and consistent throughout, and the futuristic aesthetic supports the tone. This developer clearly cares about visual cohesion across all their titles. 🗣️ Tone & Writing More serious and introspective than many BL titles. This game leans into the themes of identity, freedom, and emotional connection in a world where not everyone is treated as human. The writing…4 found this helpful
Synthetic Lover is a visual novel where you take the role of an android sex doll, called a biot, who is accidentally zapped by a mysterious device that slowly makes him think and feel like a human being. And who in their right mind wants that?! So you embark on a mission to recover this strange contraption and turn yourself back into the non-thinking gay sex machine you are. The common route in Synthetic Lover is quite short, shorter than you'll find in probably most visual novels, and essentially makes for two novels in one, as your choice of romance options is very early on in the narrative. Each route has three main endings -- a romance ending, friendship ending, and a bad ending. While the three endings in a particular route share quite a bit of content, none of the content is shared between the two separate routes; they're essentially two different journeys towards recovering the device. Each route is probably 4-5 hours long, with an additional hour for the common beginning. I liked Synthetic Lover; it's an enjoyable story. The voice acting leaves a lot to be desired, so I turned that off, but otherwise I found the romance routes in particular to be pretty cute at times. I c…1 found this helpful
Short Review
Gameplay: 8/10 Visuals: 9/10 Audio/Sound Design: 6/10 Voice Acting: 8/10 Story: 8/10 Overall: 7.8/10
Gameplay
8/10 Your standard visual novel, I use 5/10 as the standard rate for this software. The extra points come from the choices themselves. Your choices in Synthetic Lover influence the story greatly, and each of the endings feel fully unique and fleshed out. Taking the extra time to choose each option and play every single ending didn't feel like a bore or a waste, and in fact felt worth the extra time to explore. My only complaint is that Terrance's story felt a bit less unique through each of the three endings in comparison to Bastian's, but given his character and the progression it makes sense. Overall, the game runs smoothly and your options really feel like they have an impact on your story.
Visuals
9/10 I will say, the art was a bit off-putting at first. It certainly isn't what I picture in my mind for a VN. However, getting into the game and after collecting all the CGs, I can confidently say that the style has grown on me heavily. An extra point is docked though because many, and I do mean many, of the a…
Nice story!
The voicing is absolutely great! The plot is more interesting than I expected, the gaming studio seems to be really on fire. I do enjoy the game greatly. The characters are also very well-written!
