This has to be one of my most favorite games. It's a great game to zone out to. The different tools you can collect are helpful, and I like that players can determine which tools they get offered. I like to shut off a whole bunch of available options and just keep the ones I want to use in the game. Breaking Survivors on the SteamDeck is a stellar experience, imho.1 found this helpful
Breaking Survivors is a smart and energetic indie title that takes the familiar foundations of classic brick-breaker games and reinvents them through the lens of modern roguelite and survivor-style design. Developed and published by Axel Born, the game immediately feels both nostalgic and contemporary, drawing on decades-old arcade mechanics while layering in progression systems, build experimentation, and escalating pressure that keep each run feeling tense and distinct. What initially looks like a simple twist on Breakout quickly reveals itself as a surprisingly deep test of reflexes, planning, and adaptability. At its core, the gameplay revolves around controlling a paddle at the bottom of the screen, bouncing balls upward to destroy waves of descending bricks. Unlike traditional brick-breakers where the goal is simply to clear a static layout, Breaking Survivors introduces constant forward momentum by having the brick formations slowly advance toward the player. This creates a persistent sense of urgency, as failing to thin the wave quickly enough results in direct damage and eventual defeat. It's just not very good. The upgrades aren't interesting, and I found myself often in situations where I was missing balls and xp because they were literally hitting the bottom of the screen on opposite sides (and thus uncatchable). Not good design.
Way more fun than it has any right to be. It's simply Breakout with leveling up and it works. My favorite version of this game, Simple graphics work very well.
For beeing so simple it is really quite solid, worth a try
