I really want to like BRUTAL KATANA, and it's one of the million games I wish I had a mixed rating for; but it's really underwhelming because it does so much right but so much wrong. Firstly, the main general like movement is GREAT, but the wall jump literally is nothing and sucks. And this puts it down a lot because so much of the level design relies heavily on it and it incredibly slows you down for no reason, and feels terrible. There's two main enemy types in the game; left click, and right click. And that's not terrible for design, but if you have slightly bad eyesight you're ruined for this game because you can barely tell them apart, especially when you're going at a billion miles an hour. If it was literally just color coded or something, it'd be a lot better. I don't know, it's a fine game fundamentally but literally two things bring it down so much to the point of where I don't wanna.. play it. It feels fun for a bit, but I'm constantly reminded by it's drawbacks and really wish they were addressed. 5/10
It is a very unique platformer. It is relatively short, with 48 levels that you can complete in 20 minutes (if you're better than me), and 100%ing the game typically takes another 30 minutes (if you're better than me.) For its price tag its definitely a nice game to waste some time in.
If you're looking at this, I'll just say it's worth your time. Go fast - legit fast, you can get zooming in this - slice up the profile pics of Twitter's worst accounts, time attack for funsies. It's got the vibes and the movement is fantastically smooth - never seen wallrunning on the outside of a curve work dynamically like this, nice job. Only real complaint is that the cursor being a single transparent white dot is pretty easy to lose track of, could use a nice red or something for a game so precision based. 4 hours to smash out total 3 stars if you're bad at videogames like me, 5 bucks, makes its point, makes it well, and goes home. Two thumbs up. Also it has no story, which is a giant improvement over the obvious inspiration source.
Unfortunately there is no way to disable all the camera janking. When running the FOV changes and the camera rotates when strafing left and and right. This sometimes induces motion sickness... super annoying. I will change this review to positive if it's possible to disable the motion sickness inducing features.
just started, and its very addicting! nice sound track fr. idk what else to say uhhh 9.3/10 game and uhhhhhh play brutal doom guys i love the og 1911 cool game
Quite good little speedrunning parkour game. The movement feels good and it introduces and uses mechanics well enough to keep you engaged throughout, for what it does it does well the design of levels is pretty good aside from a select few and movement feels great once you get the hang of it especially later levels with more mechanics like the grappling hook. The main and only real negatives for me are the length and soundtrack, the game is short like really short i beat it in one hour and got all achievements in another which is fine for the price, but i would of liked too see maybe an ending or some type of boss or something. The music is downright terrible to the point i just muted it and turned on my own playlist this is personal opinion of course but i like all kinds of music and this games soundtrack just didnt do it for me. Overall id give the game like a 7/10 its nothing fantastic but its worth picking up especially with how often it goes on sale for like less then 2 dollars.
