About Burden
Based on the favorite mysterious post-apocalyptic universes, the game Burden will throw you right into the very center of one of such worlds full of the unexplored and uncharted, dangerous and exciting.
In Burden, every day lived is not just an adventure that can lead to any outcome, but it's you challenging the fate. You'll face everything -- from enriching yourself with prey and finding the mysterious artifacts to getting a life-long trauma that will complicate your existence in this overwhelming world.
You'll see the reverse RPG system. You get diseases, try to get used to them, and learn how to survive with these flaws. Weak bones or bladder, blood pressure or trouble breathing. Choose your challenge.
You are the only one who has a well with water. If you lose the base, the survival becomes many times more difficult. If there is water, then there will be those who need it. Someone will trade, but someone won't do it demanding it by force. Build walls and traps to protect yourself from uninvited guests, and keep in mind that you can also blow them up with some dynamite.
Reality is cruel, and in Burden you will feel it like no other. Don't want to sit on the base? Look for adventures. Don't want to go anywhere? Adventures will find you. The gameplay is built in such a way that any gaming style is rewarded with the game events.
Delve into the world of sand, fractions and unusual post-apocalyptic fauna. Search and explore, create weapons, fight for life and resources. A wide variety of melee weapons will help you with this. And if you find a gun, then you are very lucky.
Introduction
Burden is a survival-crafting game from indie developers, Black Book Development. In Burden you play a minimally realised protagonist in a minimally realised post-apocalyptic world. You've somehow managed to find yourself at only source of fresh water in the desert that surrounds you -- a well -- and it's your goal to build up a base around it and survive. I don't know if there's any end-game content or if the game continues on in the same way that it begins. At least initially, anyway, the game provides no background or motivation for anything that you do beyond surviving, but if what I've seen so far is indicative of life in the world of Burden, I'm afraid I have to say that I don't see much point in the struggle. You'd be better off dead.
Presentation
Burden's developers seem to be going for a desolate-looking post-apocalyptic setting and they've achieved that in two ways: the world is big, but almost entirely empty; and the view distance is very short, with your vision blocked after only a few metres by thick dust churned up by the winds of the endless storm that blows across the world. At first it's sort-of interesting, such a bleak view of t…18 found this helpful
Don't buy this game unless it's heavily discounted...and even then I'm still not sure. Great concept but needs polished and a little buggy.2 found this helpful
Edited: When I woke up in the desert, surrounded by a storm, I found a man lying on the ground...dead. It appears that he attempted to build a shelter in this eye of the storm and failed. I purposed his gear to live for a day...then, tomorrow came...and with it...death. From settlers, traders, killers to thieves, there is no room for error. Get it right, and die trying. Venture into the storm, with limited visibility, and find remnants of lost peoples. Listen to your radio for clues about mysterious treasure and deadly traps. Make it to the Portal Chamber where you can challenge your will and capability to survive. Out here, you meet death. Just be sure it happens to someone else. There are few places that compare with the Burden of living.1 found this helpful
This game is a big let down. The premise is great but it fails when you play. Just walk trying to find things, face many bad guys at random intervals. You can get wiped out by the first encounter so get used to restarting.1 found this helpful
I have had this game a long time and made several valiant runs at playing it. For me its not fun, its no engaging, many of the interactions with NPCs make no sense like some times they will stand and ignore you with a gun in hand, then a few minutes later they attack like theirs no tomorrow. Kudos on the environment but the whole of the game play needs reinvented in my opinion.1 found this helpful
The game is not intuitive, has no guidance/tutorial on how to play, and requires resources that are so far away from camp that survival is difficult to impossible. The water and food drains quickly and the enemies are many with far advanced weapons than the starting character is able to defend against. So far it has been a total waste of money with no guidance published yet on the internet. There is also no option to try an easier setting until you learn how to play. I just keep dying in the first hour of play every time with no ability to figure out how to proceed. Returning this one.
