"Canon - Legend of the New Gods" is an ancient Sega Mega Drive game from 1996. It's a whopping 28 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. "Canon - Legend of the New Gods" is a rejected and abandoned 2D JRPG for the Sega Mega Drive. You may be wondering why a crap rejected Sega Mega Drive game belongs on Steam and the answer is, you're right, it doesn't. This is another abandonware cash grab by Piko Interactive, who swindle their hands onto old abandoned/broken/dead games then try to swindle Steam gamers into paying them for someone else's old abandoned game. Ethical? Nope. This is a top down brawler/lightweight RPG hybrid that never got any success at launch and got even less after Piko did their usual grave robbing exercise, grabbing old abandoned crap, slapping a HUGE and insulting price tag on it, and tryin…7 found this helpful
I mean it seemed like it was panning out to be a totally fine JRPG. Ended up playing it for a little over 2 hrs before I wanted a break. Come back to find out that saving doesn't work and the game just isn't THAT good to want to leave it running 24/7 to finish. Oh well.2 found this helpful
Tl;dr - it is garbage slop ruined by infinitely spawning enemies, narrow corridors that cannot reliably progress through, experience reduction schemes, level ups that make little difference, enemies that either turtle endlessly until you step into their attack zone or b-line to your weakest character - the list goes on. Most of the changes to the genre make it infinitely worse. This game should have stayed buried. I used to recommend this game until I exited the early game part about where every level turns into a massive test of torture. Case to point, imagine you are advancing through a narrow passage around the level while multiple fliers spawn every turn to practically kill a guy EVERY SINGLE TURN. They have higher stats than you, yet they give the "weak enemy" experience counts. Unless you are willing to hack or cheat the annoyances the game expects you to endure, this is not for you.2 found this helpful
