Remaster of a short 3D-adventure game, where you assume control of a robotic unit named “DOG”, deployed on the surface of Mars to assist with its terraforming and with a dangerous mission into the planet’s depths, is essentially the same game as the original “CAT Interstellar”, only with improved graphics using Unreal Engine. You get the chance to revisit a high-tech but decaying planetary base, meet fully sentient androids that will make a comment or two as you pass them by, explore Mars surface that looks nothing like we’re used to see it and discover its ancient mystery, all in the best hard-sci-fi spirit. The game is mainly about exploration of limited areas, with few interactions in the form of tasks that you perform for your fellow androids (who act very much human-like); graphics use somewhat limited set of models (it’s on a barren planet after all) but still look pretty cool, music is only a few tracks now and then but nevertheless adds to the atmosphere and helps to make the game an engaging experience. My recommendation would be to buy the original game (it’s got trading cards), and if you enjoy it, buy Recast alongside it as “support pack” to help fund the development of…3 found this helpful

The controls and lighting are frustrating, especially near the end. I regret buying. Everything in the game is low quality and poor performance.1 found this helpful
Can run on Linux with Proton, but seems to be way too hardware-intensive for me to recommend it.1 found this helpful
CAT Interstellar: Recast

Positives:
+ Good and improved graphics + Nice landscapes + Atmospheric music + DOG control is good + Lift and break ability + All the places that are not in claustrophobic corridors or caves + You play a cat on one level + Exploration is rewarded + Secrets/easter eggs + Acceptable voiceacting + Achievements (that extends gameplay a bit)
Negatives:
- Hard to hear androids - Awkward cat control - A lot of bugs - Quite unstable with framerate issues - Gets a tad monotonous to explore the same looking corridors and caves in some levels - More aliasing than the original (anti-aliasing dosent help much either) - 60 FPS lock - No menu options for FOV adjuster - Non-working console key out-of-the-box - Slow android walking speed - Very short length (lasts for about 1-1.5 hour)
Conclusion:
This remaster is actually a tad worse than the original, believe it or not. By all means the graphics has been updated, but it also introduced a whole lot of bugs, fps drops and general instability. And most of the other small changes from the original is also a tad worse than the original release. So if you want to play this game, …
