About Cats & Dice
Cats & Dice is a dice-building roguelike all about getting the right synergies to pull off crazy combos and attain as high a score as you possibly can.
The Cats (maneki-neko) are the mainstay of the game. Every Cat has its own passive ability that can affect how you approach a run. All Cats generate a dice unique to them at the start of each round (for instance there's a Cat that will create a dice with only four on all sides). There is no additional drawing of dice from your deck or the like. These dice are then played to get a score. Reach the target score and you'll win the round. There are various Items that can be equipped onto the Cats you own. These Items can add onto or even alter your Cat's passive abilities. Some grant additional effects onto the Cat's dice and allow you to customize it to your liking. These Items are not permanently attached to your Cats, so feel free to experiment and change your strategy. The dice play as important a role as your Cats. You can get bonus points out of specific combination of dice. There's a number of rerolls per round you can use to reroll specific dice until you attain the desired outcome. Some dice can also have special effects that help in various ways, from adding scoring multiplier to gaining more rerolls.

This is a really fun take on the Balatro formula! What is there right now is fun and there is room for improvement but for the current asking price of $8 you get your moneys worth I feel. Works great on Steamdeck just missing button prompts1 found this helpful

Cats & Dice, developed and published by Yongjustyong, is a charming and strategic roguelike that manages to blend whimsical aesthetics with surprisingly deep dice-based mechanics. It takes the familiar thrill of roguelite deck-builders and fuses it with dice rolling, transforming luck into a tactical playground. At first glance, its premise seems simple—you collect cats, customize dice, and chase high scores—but within minutes it reveals a layered system of risk and reward that constantly tempts players to push for just one more roll. It’s a game that looks cute enough to disarm you, but beneath its soft exterior lies an addictive cycle of planning, probability management, and the pursuit of perfect synergy. Each run in Cats & Dice begins with the selection of several cat statues, each representing a unique ability or modifier. These cats determine your starting dice and the way your rolls will interact with various systems. As the game progresses, you acquire items that alter your dice faces, manipulate rerolls, or trigger chain effects when certain numbers or symbols align. What sets the game apart from other dice roguelikes is the flexibility of its buildcrafting. You’re not si…1 found this helpful
its just kind of generally bad. most of the cats dont really do anything that works towards anything, a whole archetype of play is actively incompatible with the point of the game, most of the few things that do work are only good in very specific scenarios, the game can very easily be bugged to stop players from unlocking higher difficulties and it's barely fun. the idea of getting sub modifiers to attatch to the primary modifiers is a great idea in a vacuum, but the execution is boring, swingy and also still broken a year after release.
The bane (& boon) of my existence
this game is really good although I think its a little too difficult even in normal mode
