About Close Combat
It's 4 A.M. Your men are dog-tired. They're desperately trying to take the bridge. They're under heavy fire. Casualties are mounting. You order your armor to move up. Two platoons of infantry to follow. But some of your men won't budge. Some are even retreating. You've got to take that bridge and time's running out. What do you do?
You're in command. But your men have minds of their own.
With Close Combat you command soldiers who react realistically to the situation they're in and are dynamically affected by their ability, strength, stamina, and mental condition.
Experience the heat of battle with continuous real-time action.
Keep your eyes open and your head down. This combination of great graphics, animation, and sound effects from 1996 help make the battlefield come alive as you command the Americans or the Germans.
Test yourself on the battlefield under authentic conditions.
See how well you command under the same conditions faced by World War II commanders as you fight through historically accurate battle situations. Deploy realistic weapons, vehicles, and troops that come with detailed information on each.

Bought it just for collecting reasons as it didn't really had much impact in me (I started with CC2) and it's very outdated, even comparing with the 2nd game. Might be because it runs on an older version of the engine, but unlike the rest of the series I cant run this on Linux.1 found this helpful
Close Combat remains an important landmark in tactical strategy gaming, offering a grounded interpretation of World War II combat that continues to stand apart from many modern releases. Originally developed by Atomic Games and now republished by SNEG for contemporary platforms, the game invites players to command troops during the aftermath of the Normandy landings. Instead of focusing on grand campaigns involving thousands of units, it narrows its attention to the experiences of individual squads fighting across dangerous battlefields. This intimate scale gives the game a distinct personality, emphasizing decision-making and battlefield awareness over spectacle. What immediately separates Close Combat from many of its contemporaries is its emphasis on morale and human behavior. Soldiers are not simply pieces on a board waiting to obey commands without question. Units may panic under heavy fire, hesitate when isolated, or retreat when they believe a situation has become hopeless. These mechanics add a remarkable layer of authenticity, forcing players to consider the mental state of their forces alongside their physical positioning. Old But, GOLD!!! This game has some really inovative features that you don't see in many RTS games like the auto zoom on the mini map so you can see the action closer without sacrificing your tactical awareness. It's pretty easy to beat but, it's really hard to master. I enjoyed it a lot! I bought the whole series and can't wait to play through it. Worth getting on sale for sure!
Game crashes ALOT and support is no help what so ever.
WORKS RIGHT!
A classic; one of the best. I love the small squad building and the personalization as they campaign moves along.
