I want to start this by making it clear that I respect the opinion of everyone who dislikes this. In this I will address the most common criticisms I've come across. If I do this right then by the end of reading this you'll know whether or not you want this game and I would definitely say to wait for sale but then I always say that for games. if you just want to have access to the original then that one does come with this and it runs exactly the way that I remember it being 30 plus years ago. I'm going to start by describing what it's like to boot the new edition up because that's where a lot of people soured on it and I don't blame a single one of them. When you start this up you will have to press either Left Central or Enter Once you're seeing the bare bones background. Doing so will bring the profile menu which appears to the only one that you can bring up from any point that isn't in the overworld or in a level. Seven times out of 10 the profile menu has a graphical glitch that means that you can see the glowing square that indicates what you have currently selected As far as placement goes but not actually the numbers and icons in your selection. There are three profiles o…

Commander Keen in Keen Dreams: Definitive Edition is a nostalgic return to one of the lesser-known chapters in the classic Commander Keen series. Originally created by id Software in 1991 as a standalone entry between the fourth and fifth episodes, Keen Dreams has always been something of a curiosity—a transitional title that bridged the evolution of early PC platforming. This modern Definitive Edition, developed by Keen Dreams and published by Strategy First, attempts to bring that forgotten slice of gaming history into a new era with upgraded features such as widescreen support, new levels, reworked music, and modern controller compatibility. Yet despite these enhancements, the game remains very much a product of its time, retaining both the charm and clunkiness that defined the early ‘90s era of DOS platformers. The story once again follows eight-year-old genius Billy Blaze, known to players as Commander Keen, who falls asleep and dreams himself into a bizarre nightmare world ruled by living vegetables. His goal is to defeat the sinister Boobus Tuber, king of the tubers, and save himself from a fate worse than broccoli. The setup is absurd and whimsical, yet in keeping with the…

Before anything, two things: 1. The original games is good. 2. The enhanced version has technical issues BUT IT'S ABSOLUTELY PLAYABLE. That said, I RECOMMEND this game, but with some caveats. Don't try BY ANY MEANS to play this game with a gamepad. It doesn't have the jump button assigned. Don't even use any key mapper (Steam's own nor external), because the game will still recognize your gamepad and you'll be pressing commands two times and can have a distorted experience. Limit the framerate externally to 60 FPS (use something like the NVIDIA App) or the game logic will break in any higher framerate. If you play with a keyboard (ARROWS to move, CTRL for jump, ALT for shoot and SHIFT for run) and get hold of some ocasional problems with the interface, the enhanced version is a pretty good, even solid experience. It runs smoothly, has widescreen, has some enhanced graphics and even an excellent soundtrack! (which the original game lacked). It also makes a twist on the gameplay: now you don't have lives, you can't collect the bombs regularly (to defeat the final boss) and can't save inside a level. In this version, you'll have infinite lives, but you'll have to start over the level…
