Loved this little game. Highly recommend. A solid 9/10 if you don't expect an endless experience. I find the reviews are way too harsh. There is plenty of content to play for 10-20 hours and have fun. Certainly way more if you have time... but I am at a point in my life where I have limited free time and I won't try every character/strategy. This games respects that. The complaints on RNG are overstated. It's not like slay-the-spire where each fight is a clutch, and you're desperate for any +1 strength or double poison (slay is ultimate RNG on how 3 cards are OP and the entire run is just hoping to get them). In this game, you don't get punished forever because you skipped a block and lost 2HP at the start of the map. There are many more relics/cards/items. There are many viable strategies. Sometimes you find INCREDIBLE combos. Sometimes you don't. Sometimes you die in the first act and that's fine. (I played poorly? I got bad cards/relics? A bit of both really). This game is balanced for you to find things that synergize together. I like it that way. It's fun. It's great.2 found this helpful
One of the more unique, exciting typical roguelikes that I've played lately! Definitely a lot of luck draws, but really, what's that much different than slay the spire? Just lost a game where I went into a battle with 21 hp on map 3 and the enemy used a spell to directly target my hero, that was quite sad! But there are obviously going to be extremely overpowered strategies that you can use to tip the odds in your favor. A lot of the fun in the game is to try to make that perfect strategy and get lucky enough to make everything line up for it to work! Some of the achievements are wild, like, win a game with 5 cards in your deck, so it's clearly designed for crazy strategies!
This reminds me so much of Kingdom Rush but with Dungeon & Dragons style cards instead. Love the graphics, music, sounds and the different cards that add a decent variety of combat options. I do wish that there were more maps to play not just the three. I feel like the game could be made longer but the replayability has been superb with new cards added after defeating the final boss. I hope more gets added soon. Great game!
Commander Quest delivers an engaging blend of roguelike deck-building and automated tactical battles, creating a strategy experience that feels both innovative and rewarding. Developed by Flyway Games, Inc. and published by Flyway Games, Inc. alongside KRAFTON, Inc., the game transports players into a whimsical fantasy world where legendary historical commanders are reimagined as heroes leading armies of mythical creatures, dwarves, beasts, and undead warriors. Rather than relying on traditional turn-based mechanics or simple card combat, the game combines careful deck construction with real-time battlefield execution, resulting in a formula that constantly challenges players to think strategically before every encounter. The foundation of the gameplay lies in assembling an effective deck while building an army capable of handling increasingly difficult battles. Every card, relic, and unit has the potential to contribute to powerful combinations, making each reward selection meaningful. Instead of chasing the strongest individual cards, success comes from understanding how different abilities interact with one another. Players can specialize in defensive formations anchored by stu…
