Coreless: Prologue

I think the game has some good promise. While rather unoptimized and tricky to get figured out at the start, the game actually serves as a solid roguelike. I think the game shines most in the abilities that you can obtain, they're character-specific but very diverse. I found myself getting pretty into it until it crashed going into stage 3. People compare it to RoR2, but I'd say it stands out enough with plenty of its own ideas. I would suggest methods of speeding up timers, though. There's a lot of point-defense gameplay, but from what I played, I didn't notice any methods of speeding up the process to access the bossfights, etc. With some optimization and methods of speeding up the gameplay, I think this could be a fun game, genuinely. The synergies and build making is definitely its strongest point, and that's what I play a roguelike for!

the game is SUPER unopimized. the menus run great but thats it. the game crashed twice trying to open it and it ran at 15 fps on low settings. had to bring the resolution down to a burry mess just to get the dang thing the run at a consitent 60. that aside, the gameplay (little of it that i did experience) was slugish and clunky. dashing recovers super slowly, kills all momentum afterward, and as far as i can tell, gives no i-frames. TLDR: fix the dang game!

This may be a bit pre-emptive of a review, but here are my initial thoughts: The movement in this game feels just too limited. Only having 2 dashes in what feels like 8 seconds feels so bad, especially because there are many enemies with attacks that go straight under you, combined with attacks that come towards you horizontally. I wish that dashing cost less stamina so that at least 3 dashes could be made in the same amount of time, or that base movement speed would be increased. Although I did see that there are some movement upgrades in the skill tree, I think it just makes early progression painful. Secondly: The main reason I dislike (but still very much enjoy) Risk of Rain 2 is because of the constant charging mechanics. With limited movement and no rewards for killing enemies during the charging in this game, it feels repetitive and boring during those times, especially during stage 2 where the charging stations take 4x as long to charge compared to stage 1 having more frequent and faster charging. This is misleading, a shady way to market a for-profit product, and misleading gamers for profit is wrong. The product this is advertising,[i]Coreless[/i] is a console-esque abandoned Early Access third person brawler with a nice enough progression system, but no polish, a lot of jank and other gameplay and optimisation problems that are never getting fixed.... But this isn't Coreless, it's just an ad for it. If you really like adverts, you can get them for free on Youtube, in your browser... heck even online streaming video subscriptions have ads now.
