About Cowboys & Zombies VR
Prove that you are the fastest gunslinger in the old west by literally shooting with your bare hands. You have to be quick or the zombies will eat you...
The game has two modes: Story mode and Hands tracking or Time mode.
In the story mode the player can move freely around the stage, he will have to find the way to go to the next level.
In hands tracking mode, the player remains static in one position, having to survive the zombie attack for a certain amount of time. You can use the Quest, Quest 2 and Quest Pro goal cameras, to play, you do not need controllers. Playing without controllers is less accurate, but can be more fun...
Designed for Pico 4, Oculus Meta Quest 2, Valve Index, Pimax, HTC Vive and Quest Pro PC-VR, Hands Tracking Mode.
What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players consistently criticize Cowboys & Zombies VR for poor execution across multiple fronts, including bad sound design, unconvincing melee combat, buggy gameplay with texture clipping and menu issues, and overall low visual quality that doesn't showcase Unreal Engine 5's capabilities. While some acknowledge there might be a fun wave shooter concept buried underneath, the early access state combined with apparent lack of development progress, combined with nausea-inducing head-tracking problems and confusing UI design, makes most reviewers unable to recommend it even at a low price point.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my gameplay & initial impressions here: https://youtu.be/5L9ilIby_es This is the worst Unreal Engine 5 VR Zombie Shooter of 2022. You don't have to take my word for it though, you can watch the video if you dare. Happy Thanksgiving! Cowboys & Zombies VR is an Early Access paid VR zombie shooter game. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, sounded so-so, played ok. Does have universal symbology instead of text for menu choices. Does have a free Demo game to test it out. CONS: - Bad sound design. Zombie dying sounded like balloons popping, farts and air escaping balloon. - There is a Nazi and Mummy model zombie in a Western themed game. - Six-Guns with unlimited ammo or more than 6 shots. - Zombie ragdoll when they fall down. Buy if you only wanna donate money to the four person Dev team, not worth buying otherwise. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. It's still uncompleted, probably abandonware. They say unreal engine 5, ok, but you are not able to see anything "wow". It doesn't even work the escape menu. What a waste..
Disclaimer: I've received this game for free via Curator Connect. Cowboys and Zombies VR is a generic VR wave shooter that is awful in every possible aspect. At least there is no false advertisement here: you can just watch the trailer to get how poorly the game plays, looks an even sounds. My playthrough went like this: after walking for a bit in the nonsensical prologue, I was ambushed by a lonely zombie and introduced to extremely unconvincing VR melee combat. Then I stepped on a stool, started jumping randomly across the room until breaking through textures and getting stuck in a black emptiness. I had no will to restart the game and go through this crap again. Works on Reverb G2.
See my video of my first play here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3fcYeNM_0k I feel like, at the very heart of this, there's a fun little VR wave shooter kinda thing, trying to get out. Sadly it's wrapped in a baffling UI, bad graphics, a nausea-inducing head-tracking issue that really tested my otherwise pretty good VR legs, the oddest collection of sounds, that seem to come from places where the action isn't, and just all-round murk. Sorry, but even at the low price that's been asked, unless you have a burning need for a western zombie shooter... I really can't recommend.
