Can you save a life?

Welcome to Creatures of Ava, a unique creature-saver game inviting you to explore a world brimming with wild beings. Instilling joy and wonder, they provide a unique bond that enables you to utilize their skills for traversing the planet and solving environmental challenges. Once peaceful creatures, they now succumb to an unknown infection driving them to behave aggressively, which makes your mission to save them an urgent necessity.

Exploration-driven Gameplay

The gameplay encourages curiosity-driven exploration of its distinct ecosystems—such as the colorful Nari jungle or mysterious Mâruba swamp—creating an interconnected world. With non-aggressive combat mechanics designed for healing rather than defeating and indigenous Flute melodies that you play to tame creatures, the game further highlights the creature-saver nature of the experience.

Meaningful Narrative

Step into the shoes of Vic, a 22-year-old nature adventurer as she navigates through the immersive expedition alongside Tabitha, a composed and astute researcher. Together, you confront the recurring infection—called “the withering” by the local race of Naam—threatening Ava’s inhabitants. The game's narrative, co-created by Rhianna Pratchett, is a journey of wonder and mystery but also discovery, leading to the revelation of the planet's captivating secrets.

Saving Through Understanding

Creatures of Ava is a game featuring a dense, populated world of rich ecosystems filled with creatures that play a vital role in the planet’s natural balance. It goes beyond traditional creature-related genres, offering a deeper understanding and connection with the things you’ll encounter on Ava. Once you come to understand the true meaning of the infection, you will be challenged to step out of the human-centric point of view and learn about the real toll it takes to preserve the primal beauty at the very roots of Ava.

After all, can you save something you don't understand?

Thought it was alright, but not what I was expecting. The store page/trailers make it seem a lot more exciting than it actually is - it's very much a slow "environmental/cleaning" game like The Gunk, Loddlenaut, Island Saver etc. There's no real combat or challenge to the game and I think some players might get bored. It's a loop of learning an ability, taming creatures and using their abilities on basic puzzles, then moving to the next area. There's not much variation to the creatures' abilities so by the end of the 2nd region you've pretty much seen the entire game. The environments look nice and are varied, but unfortunately they all play the same due to the limited number of creature abilities (destroy wall, push block, dig). One major complaint is a lot of the collectibles are missable and you can't revisit areas. The devs said this is due to the story but there's no real reason why you shouldn't be able to revisit after finishing them. The areas don't die or become infected, so what's stopping you? I still enjoyed the game but would only recommend on sale. I just wish there was creature combat or Zelda dungeons or something.

This is a fun creature collector, but it sure is quite repetitive. The sense of wonder and adventure is there, discovering the alien planet has a certain charm to it, especially with the slightly janky flute minigame. It does add some weight and progression to the narrative. I like the color choice and the interconnected level design that thankfully minimized the backtracking. Even so, you'll be visiting the same locations often and it did get a bit boring. The dialogue is probably not for me, it's quite cringe and overly safe, and it goes out of its way to make everyone you interact with very unserious. I skipped most it. While I enjoyed the exploration, when reaching a new area, it just felt tiring.

Whole story was actually pretty mid, but gameplay-wise it was really nice. Capturing creatures, taking photos of them, completing the avapedia was really cool and I liked it very much. I truly felt like a scientist in a different planet. Battle in this game was ok, but not something I appreciated. Either way, I recommend this game if you like animals and a peaceful experience in a video game.

Waaaaaaa. Just finished. Very good. Some minor bugs, mostly animals getting stuck in walls, but they don't hinder the gameplay at all. 10/10.

It weas a fun, beatiful game. All the different animals were cute and the different area's were well worked out. Fairly easy, somewhat cozy with a beautiful story adventure. Well worth the money spent.
