About Crimson Tactics: The Rise of The White Banner

Crimson Tactics: The Rise of The White Banner is a turn-based tactical RPG set in a medieval high fantasy world and unfolds an action-packed political story in the country of Wendalle. Experience the fate of a kingdom through the lives of the characters tied together by desire, destiny and demise.

The kingdom of Wendalle is in dire straits! It is divided by differing ideals and flooded with mistrust. A siege leads to a civil war, and the civil war threatens the stability of the entire kingdom as each dukedom competes in a race for Wendalle’s throne.

One of these dukedoms, Swozalta, is ruled by Duke Arsenio Duran, a cruel and cunning man with a sinister plot to acquire higher power and a higher standing within the kingdom. He crushes all those who stand in his way but one opponent seems elusive - a small group of rebels that are persistent in their quest to expose and defeat him. However, the duke’s powerful military is slowly but surely routing this rebellion, and it is slowly becoming obvious that its days are numbered.

You find yourself here. What will you choose? What decisions will you make? Will you value the lives of your comrades, or use them as you see fit? Will you choose to help those in need, or help yourself because your ideals seem clearer? Whatever you choose will change the course of Swozalta, and of the entire kingdom of Wendalle.

Crimson Tactics is heavily influenced by games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre. It brings in a new twist on those classics as well as new improvements and additions to the tactics genre:
 • A unique mounting system that includes mounts such as Horses and Dragons.
 • Challenging tactical gameplay with aggressive and adaptive enemies.
 • A dynamic difficulty option that adjusts difficulty based on player performance.
 • Tactical grid-based maps that facilitate a large variety of playstyles.
 • The game features a robust Class System with playstyles ranging from melee close-range fighters to long-range archers and mages.
 • Classes of characters can be changed regularly and Abilities retained even after a change.
 • An extensive Equipment system where you can mix and match different kinds of Weapons and Gear for a more tailored experience.

Grabbed this on a sale because I am a tactics enjoyer. It's ok. Not the wort game I've played, but also not the best. The story is meh and you don't get that many unique story units. Visually, I think the artwork for the generic units and the story characters is well done. Flowers to whomever drew them. The in-game battle characters design kinda suck though. I didn't like 90% of them. The combat is all right. it feels very Temu FFT and Tactics Ogre, emphasis on the Temu. I hit a few combat glitches that made me restart a level (after I had already won) and that wasn't great. It happened twice when using the necromancer class and once when I was selecting a story mission. The other posters are not stretching the truth when they said the game just ends. I beat the game a few minutes ago and I had no idea I was on the final map. The game is pretty long so you get your money's worth in time played, but then again.... Resi 6 did the same thing and we all know how we feel about that one so... It's something if you are super bored, but honestly I'd pass.

UPD after 18 hours. I didn't read this message from developers before and now I get why this game can't work properly https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1480810/view/4330858863426814098 This game won't be ended, won't be fixed (there are a lot of different bugs, starting from bad mechanics ending just freezing the game in the middle of the fight), so finally I really not happy of wasting time further. Though the game really had great potential on my point of view, it was good try to make FFT inspired game. This game looked like a very high potential game, FFT inspired, a lot of classes, ideas, skills, passive skills. UPD after developers answer. Game needs some improvements, QOL (like if you hold the button, choose not one item, aim should be reworked as now it works badly, a bit earlier start of all functions, game features as for several hours you can't do anything except story line). Graphic style is good, classes looks good, variety of skills looks interesting on the first view. If developers won't drop it - it can be very good FFT inspired game.

Crimson Tactics: Rise of the White Banner is a strong tactical RPG with a surprisingly engaging story and solid, satisfying gameplay. The game does a good job of building a world full of political tension, war, loyalty, and difficult choices, giving the campaign more weight than a simple battle-to-battle strategy game. The story is one of its best parts. It has the feel of a classic strategy RPG, with noble houses, military conflict, personal ambition, and characters caught in the middle of larger events. The writing gives the campaign a sense of purpose, and it makes you want to keep pushing forward to see how the conflict develops. The gameplay is also very solid. Battles reward careful positioning, smart use of classes, and thinking ahead rather than just rushing forward. Unit roles feel meaningful, and there is enough customization to make building your army enjoyable. It captures the fun of older tactical RPGs while still offering its own identity.

This is an incomplete copycat of" Arbiter: The fel seal(don't remember the exact grammar, but with that you will 100% find it) The original is indeed complete, is a nice story, doesn't force characters down your throat, doesn't make weird mixes ( japanese warriors in an medieval setting...) I mean if you don't have anything but, is a way to pass the time, but what a letdown that the story is not finished. the combat pace is honestly one of the best in the genre (the fel seal is overwelhemly superior) but its very similar. The mechanics of limited rounds to resurrect your units is great, as well as the undead returning if you don't use holy water, those 2 features were awesome tbh, and are originals of Crimson Tactics (not in the fel seal) the mechanic of having up to 3 deaths to permadeath a unit, without some mechanism to recover loyalty, is too punishing. This is also an original feature. Pretty much the rest, copycat of Arbiter:the fel seal. nd I mean EVERYTHING. The classes system , the whole UI, The progression system , the core of the combat pace, the terrains..It seems more like a mod inspired by the fel seal. I mean, I believe that formula was great, and deserves to be re…

I saw the devs were trying to redeem this game, and I fully support them in that. I didn't know this game existed until a few days ago, after the game had since received some updates after being abandoned in 2024ish. I wouldn't say that I'd rate this game as negative and I'll forever hate that Steam doesn't allow for neutral reviews. I don't want to post this as a negative because the devs are trying to improve it, and each negative review they get will both demoralize them and also influence other potential buyers - neither of which are my intention. But to be most honest, I'd rate it more negative than positive, so I'll leave a Negative review for now. I need to mention that I'm very early in, only the first few fights, so my opinions could likely change if I were to progress. Unfortunately, at the moment, I don't think it's worth it for me to spend the time doing so in the hopes that I may find the game more enjoyable the deeper I get in.
Pros:

It's a turn-based tactics game, and I love those.
There some class diversity, and I love that.
Dialogue can be skipped, and I need that. Growing up with tactics ogre KOL, and final fantasy tactics A1 and A2, it's great to see a game that's clearly made by fans of these games.
