Croc Legend of the Gobbos

It's like a polished version of the original game. The meshes and textures are much smoother. They stayed as true to the original as possible with minimal texture glitches, so playing it feels like the old game but smoother and visually clearer. It may not look fancy and reimagined the way Spyro Reignited turned out, but for those of us with an acquired taste for graphics of this time, it's beautiful. They almost perfectly preserved it for the pickiest of nostalgic critics who don't like seeing change in what they grew up with. I still have my PS1 copy and am happy I got this version too. It feels like the same game, but easier to see. (I chuckled when I realized the game doesn't need loading screens anymore. It's definitely faster for speed runs!)

I had no idea they re-released Croc! I was on a forum talking about underrated and forgotten games, mentioned this one, and was told about it. This isn't a conversation I hadn't had before a few times either: Mention Croc, it seems like no one I knew from outside of childhood knew about it. So I was super surprised and bought it right away at like 5 AM, lol. This is a special game to me that I played a lot with my family, to the point we once hunted down every copy at every pawn shop in my city, but none of them would let us play passed level 80. So it had always been a dream of mine to be able to finish it, but unopened copies for resell were $500+. Not a risk I'd want to take when it seems like something could have went wrong with the production of the original disks, too. So far I've only played the first section, but it stays faithful to the original with a little graphics update and polish; which just about any PS1 game would need for a modern player to want to play it, outside of having a PS1. What really blew me away though was they included a ton of material OG fans will appreciate: Multiple sets of artwork, unreleased plans for a Croc TV show, the OG Japanese commercial, …

I don't need to complete the game to already give this a positive review. An absolute childhood favourite that I adore, and I am even MORE excited for Croc 2 to come out. I played already when it came out on Epic, but decided I'm replaying on Steam (because I prefer Steam overall and am happy to support devs for bringing one of my childhood classics back to modern times!). My only gripe is that as a kid, I played Croc 2 on PC more, and the keyboard mapping was Z and X for tail and turn, so it's taken me a long time to try and get used to the mapping for Croc, and I wish that it was possible to change :( I know there's been some other comments like this, so I am hoping that it's something they can change in the future if enough people use keyboard. :) Outside of that, effing LOVE this game! :D Cannot be more happy to replay two of my ultimate fave games as a kid years later!

I recently discovered that the studio behind my favorite childhood game "I-Ninja" has made a comeback, so I immediately bought "Croc: Legend of the Gobbos". I got completely hooked on it. I missed out on it as a child, but playing it now feels like being transported back to my childhood. I’m really looking forward to the sequel, and I hope you’ll release a remaster of "I-Ninja" in the nearest future! Thank you so much for these wonderful games! Best of luck to you!

Well what can I say about this game which was originally one of my earliest PS1 games back in the day. It's a great nostalgia trip. The difficulty ramping is a bit dodgy in places but overall it didn't affect my enjoyment of the game. The atmosphere of the game remains faithful to the original with a new-coat-of-paint freshness. The soundtrack is as amazing as ever, along with most of the sound effects. The ability to change the graphics to a more classical look is cool even though I didn't use it as much as I thought I would. However, the game is not without flaws. Some of the hitboxes on some of the enemies are a bit skew-whiff, which becomes a problem when some of the achievements require damageless runs (some of them against bosses) and some of the platforms can be inconsistent when you try to grab the ledge. Also, the shadow of where you are going to land is too faint, leading to many frustrating deaths especially when there are large drops involved. These flaws can be very frustrating when it comes to the time trial aspect of each level.
