A solid horizontal shoot 'em up. It has a few difficulty levels, and finishing the story on one of them takes about an hour across seven stages. Some interesting aspects worth mentioning are the vector-style graphics, with solid colours and shapes, varied enemy attack patterns, and boss fights, being the last one pretty epic. It doesn’t reinvent the genre or standout for anything in particular, but overall it feels fresh and entertaining. I recommend it. If you want to play a tiny little shmup with any of these things in it: - a unique and colorful handmade artstyle - a very good retro-inspired original soundtrack that has no right to go as hard as it does - a short runtime that makes beatable in less than an hour - very good character and enemy designs - multiple difficulty modes that increase high score potential as they get harder - some neat extras, like optional information on characters/enemies - a simple story that stays out of the way and operates almost entirely on vibes - made by a small (and I think underappreciated) indie dev with a lot of style, passion and talent - stupid cheap, especially if you can get it on sale - cute! ...then you should play this game! It is good! You will like it!2 found this helpful
I picked this up because I enjoyed Somnabuster so much and it even made me curious enough to check out some of PD_CGT's earlier work! Cycle Chaser H-5 is a good game! It's a horizontal arcade shmup with some challenge packed into it. I'm not a shmup enthusiast myself but I feel like this is great for someone who is new to the genre and trying to add less difficult shmups to their library of indie shmups. I gobbled this game down in less than a couple hours but this really is a full arcade shmup! There still was plenty of playtime left for me in it's hardest difficulty or 1cc'ing it on hard. So many games so little time ;( I need to play Disaster Arms next!1 found this helpful
Beginner friendly horizontal shooter. Love the style! Took a bit for my to differentiate between the energy dropped by enemies and projectiles but wasn't an issue after 15-30 minutes.
awesome artstyle, interesting lore, music that feels a bit strange at first but grows on you over time, especially the final boss song...and non-existent gamefeel. The game handles like I´m playtesting a very early prototype, not a finished product. You´d be surprised what a bit of screen shake and slightly louder sound effects for hits landing can do. Honestly, I really enjoyed the game, I had my fill for the price, as someone who isn´t particularly good at shmups I might´ve found it easy, which is not necessarily a bad thing but these kinds of games rely on mastery to extend playtime, so generally i think it´s better to make things more difficult rather than easier, however, as I went trough other games by the developer I realized that the lacking gamefeel is a universal issue across all of their work and something that I think should be looked into.
Fantastic shmup. The difficulty is perfect, the music is awesome, and the artstyle is really unique. There's some really nice replayability, as well. The game isn't too long, and there are some challenging achievements to work towards. My only complaint is that the 2 unlockable weapon styles are not that fun to use due to them being worse than the default arsenal. I really like PD_CGT's work. I'm excited to see what they put out in the future. One of the most underrated indie devs out there, in my opinion.
