i got lost as ♥♥♥♥ yo nael had to watch me circle the area 50 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ times before i rememebered where to go 10/10 made me use my brain real hard

cool game and good style, personally its not for me because im a lazy bum who likes overstimulating graphics and bright miku's on my screen, but overall its a great game and you should try if your into books and dark fantasy

Darkward is a very strange little adventure game, and I think the decision to make it almost entirely text based is what gives it most of its identity. I am playing as the Wanderer in a bleak purgatorial world filled with ruined sanctuaries, tombs and things that are better left buried. There is no combat and there is not much hand holding either. Instead, I am reading descriptions, clicking through choices and trying to understand what the world is telling me. It has a very dark fantasy feeling, but it is more interested in atmosphere and mystery than throwing enemies at me. The atmosphere is easily the strongest part for me. The writing constantly makes the world feel cold, empty and uncomfortable, and I like how much information is left for me to work out myself. I am not given a big explanation of what happened or a map showing me exactly where to go. I have to pay attention to inscriptions, objects, locations and the consequences of my choices. That makes even small discoveries feel important because I am slowly putting the world together in my own head. I also like the way the point and click system works with the text. A relativity short but well crafted text based adventure, that is full of atmosphere. If you enjoyed classic solo D&D, or choose your own adventure style structured narratives you'll probably enjoy this.

Before I say anything, I need it to be clear that I suck at point and click puzzle games. With that being said, I got stuck several times with no clue what to do, especially with parts where I have to combine items. How in the WORLD would I have known to carve a hole in the coin and make it into a necklace. Other than that little critique, this was a wonderful game. The visuals were nice, the story was so freaky (and left a lot up to imagination!), but my favorite part had to be the sound design. The sound effects were perfect for the actions, and the ambient music in the different areas added so much depth to my experience. You can really feel the passion that went into this game.
