Death end re;Quest 2 is an insult to anyone who loved the 1st game. The story has way more plot holes, barely connects to the first game and many many MANY gameplay features were stripped down from the first game. Don't even bother buying this one even if you liked the first game, it's completely different in tone, has an overall worse story and is barely connected to the first game (in an, of course, extremely loose way). The game feels like a VN that has unnecessary gameplay tacked on contrasted with the first game which was rough but had a decent balance between the VN and RPG sections as well as far better atmosphere and tension. This game is so inconsequential and pointless that the namesake isn't even done well, there are fewer death ends AND they're all meaningless and contrived as hell with low production quality. The characters were enjoyable for the most part but the story they come in is so horrendous that it ruined my enjoyment. This is not a fully negative review, but after finally reaching Chapter 8, I gotta say, the story so far, which was the highlight in the previous game has been a drag. Really hoping for an amazing ending that ties together everything... but a bit sceptical on this. Hopefully I am wrong. I wouldn't mind if the visual novel sections had more impact... but they are usually simple conversations with random people in the dorm that don't really add much to the story so far. I will come back and update the review if that changes... but it feels as if the sections that were part of NG+ were simply removed from the main story to pad the content. If it were a 3-4 hour prologue it would be alright... but after 19 hours, the game so far hasn't been as enjoyable as I was expecting, even if there is a story going on that is finally getting traction in the last chapters. The combat is OK with really minor changes from the first game, and some enemies are extremely buffed to the point that using the DLC weapons on normal didn't do enough damage to a couple of normal enemies...
