About Corpse Party (2021)

✦ AI summary

Uncover the dark secrets of a cursed elementary school as you navigate a haunted alternate reality, making choices that determine your survival and your friends' fates against vengeful spirits. Stunning retro pixel art, fully voiced Japanese dialogue with immersive 3D binaural audio, and branching narratives create an intensely atmospheric horror experience that rewards exploration and careful decision-making.

A friendship ritual gone awry transports high school student Ayumi Shinozaki and her friends to an alternate reality version of a tragedy-stricken institution that stood on the site of their own school long ago. As the vengeful spirits of elementary school students threaten their lives and their sanity, their only hope of survival–much less escape–is to uncover the chilling details surrounding the murders of those trapped before them.

Every Choice Counts
Explore every corner of Heavenly Host Elementary with a cross between point-and-click adventure gameplay and a battleless RPG, making choices that significantly change the course of the story and its characters’ fates.

More Content than Ever
On top of the original five main story chapters and fourteen Extra Chapters, two new Extra Chapters delve into the relationship between series favorites Ayumi and Yoshiki, as well as introduce Miku Shirayume and Ryoka Iwami, two characters with their own intriguing roles to play in the grisly legend of Heavenly Host Elementary.

Another Dimension in Horror
Put on headphones to immerse yourself in the fully voiced Japanese audio and bone-crunching sound effects thanks to the binaural 3D recording techniques, creating a simulated surround sound experience that will have you looking over your shoulder at every turn.

The game will do everything to make you empathize with the characters while making them as stupid and obnoxious as possible. Apparently the only response girls here have to death/horror is crying while screaming as loud as possible (this is 30% of the game). Also I don't know why most of chapter 3 is a 14yo girl pretending to be 7 who absolutely has to take a piss but she can't because unfortunately all the bathrooms have collapsed and she's unable to do that in a corner instead. By the way, I guess privacy is more important than making sure you don't get separated / murdered alone by one of the many ghosts in the school, unsurprisingly she
almost gets killed because of it while her brother was waiting for her inside the building
. This is completely unnecessary, it has no purpose to the story and you will have to endure this weird and stupid section of the game. The gameplay is also pretty bad imo, a lot of backtracking which was usually something I don't care about but I really feel it on this game with its excruciatingly slow movement and sometimes huge maps on the last chapters. You are sometimes forced to backtrack, go in circles to trigger the events whic…

a wonderfully narrated nonlinear opus still worth experiencing even in this day and age; though at times suspicious of extra chapters as a bunch of retcons sewing up the glaring plotholes here and there, i've actually come to really appreciate how they complement the narrative all in all. i guess even if they are retcons i don't really mind it... definitely will be grabbing the book of shadows next one of these days 8/10 i would say

This is the game that made me love CP (corpse party). I have seen some stuff about CP (corpse party) being "bad" but I think it is amazing. I will look at more CP (corpse party) when I decide to buy the next one. (CP means corpse party btw)
