As the developers themselves admit, Delay is a 2D retro pixel platformer version of Superhot, the indy game where everything is paused until you move. Taking a successful 3D video game and making a retro 2D pixel shovelware version is a bizarre exercise in taking something decent, and making it worse. 3D video gaming is a big industry because 3D graphics are widely accepted as being better than 2D graphics. Likewise, low res pixel graphics were replaced by high definition graphics as soon as the technology was available. I don't often find myself saying, "Well, I like pizza, but it would be great if someone made it worse. Maybe put some gravel on it?". The moral of the story here is, if you like Superhot... play Superhot! This is deliberately made to be worse than that game. I'm going to give the developer of this game exactly what he gave us. I'm going to take a thumbs up, which is a great review for a developer to get, and make it worse, by turning it into a thumbs down.

Delay is a tightly focused indie action game that revolves almost entirely around speed, precision, and the clever manipulation of time. Developed by Matt Frank and published by baconlovarstudios, it positions itself as a skill-driven experience where quick reflexes and thoughtful execution matter far more than narrative context or visual spectacle. From the first moments, the game makes its intentions clear: this is a challenge-oriented title designed to test how well players can adapt to pressure, learn from failure, and gradually master a demanding mechanical system. The defining feature of Delay is its time manipulation mechanic, which allows the player to slow the world around them while remaining fully in control. This mechanic is not merely a novelty but the foundation upon which the entire game is built. Enemies, projectiles, and environmental hazards all respond dynamically to the flow of time, forcing players to think tactically about when to pause, when to move, and when to commit to risky maneuvers. Combat and platforming are deeply intertwined, with levels structured around precise jumps, split-second dodges, and calculated attacks that feel almost puzzle-like in exec…

Honestly, I was going to say it’s Superhot in 2D, because it basically is. Time only moves when you move, that’s it. The inspiration is more than obvious. But it still has its own merit. The levels are well designed, and it offers some pretty interesting challenge modes. So it’s cool to see a different take on the Superhot formula.

Reviewing every game I own #48 Feels like a flash game I would have played as a kid during computer class instead of doing work. But I got stuck on a hard level so I turned it off

I just played this 2 hours straight and had some awesome laughs! This game is hilariously amazing! You restart every level for several times and try different, but the level also tries different on you as every guy has different weapons each time and takes a different path to you and each projectile has a random spread, so you always have to improvise. NO memorizing! It never failed to surprise me! Very good game design! I like it a lot! Absolutely worth your time and money! After those 55 levels you can replay them with a challenge twist like only grenades (this is SO ludicrously funny!). I played through all 55 levels three times in a row in 2 hours. I'm still laughing at it xD TRY IT! If you don't like it: refund it, If you like it: keep it ;-)

Imagine this game, but made by SUPERHOT developers. It would be so great!
