Desolate City: The Bloody Dawn is a retro-style adventure game set after an outbreak in a city called Gray Bay.
It seemed to be a normal day at Gray Bay. While law student Lisa was doing her part-time job in a pizzeria, a secret experimental project had made great progress in a research facility on the other side of the city, but later it was not proceeding as the researchers were expecting... After an accident at the research facility, a journalist, Max, was assigned to cover the news. However, everyone, including him, had no idea that the accident had leaked a virus, which was going to turn everyone in the city into an uncontrollable maniac...
Compared to the version that was previously released, Desolate City: The Bloody Dawn Enhanced Edition improves the ARPG experience, fixes bugs reported by the community, and also adds more features, such as the new map system, difficulty levels, multi-language, and overall quality improvement. With the support of Steamworks, we are also able to enhance the user experience with features like achievements, multi-platform support, cloud-storage service, and controller support.
Story

I just finished playign this after "Desolate CIty: the last show" and I'm very surprised in seeing that he bloody Dawn is WAY better than the newest one. Dialogues, easter eggs, riddles, systems and secondary missions are just way, way, better. I hope to see more games like this one. TL;dr: a 2D version of resident evil 2, with interesting characters.2 found this helpful
This game is a loveletter to 90s RE-games, ported to a 2D engine. It's a very faithful recreation of the atmosphere with many nostalgic elements like "door transtitions" and the health meter. Also the soundtrack is clearly referencing RE 1/2. It can be rough at times with limited saving posibilites and a battle system works a bit clunky like most of it's kind created in a 2D grid based engine. If you're however looking for your survival horror fix and you really like that retro experience, you should give this one a shot.2 found this helpful
I play/review a lot of survival horror games, and this is one of the more peculiar ones. I would absolutely recommend it - at the very least as a strange oddity, although I found it to be pretty fun in the end! That said, it's gotta have some of the weakest level design I have seen in these sorts of games - way way way too much running back and forth. The genre has always thrived on calculated backtracking and level familiarity, but there is a limit and this game really pushes it. Sure, the game is not very attractive, but there's a heart here and that always matters. The story is very derivative of early resident evil, but much more elaborate than a simple resident evil copycat, (sort of like Daymare 1998 now that I think about it), but....it kind of just ends? Painfully inconclusive. Perhaps that gets fixed in the sequel, but I couldn't get very far in that one so who knows. The combat is just weird. Kind of interesting and very unusual, but just...weird. I did eventually adapt to it and find it pretty fun, challenging enough but not so much that it really weighed on the experience (the same can not be said for the games sequel, sadly). Really impressed with Desolate City: The Bloody Dawn – Enhanced Edition AKA Resident Evil SNES Edition. The atmosphere is thick and genuinely unsettling — the city feels dead but somehow watching you. The lighting and sound design are especially strong (play with headphones). The Enhanced Edition runs smoothly and looks great, which makes exploring even creepier. It doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares — it builds slow, constant dread instead. If you’re into moody, oppressive survival horror, this is absolutely worth it.
Mad respect for a RPG2k3 game with achievements.
