About Detective Gallo

In the darkness enveloping a city like any other, five exotic plants are the victims of a shocking event. There's no doubt, it’s a multiple plant murder.

The city is not particularly shocked by the tragic incident, but a multi-billionaire is willing to pay an outrageous amount of money to solve the mystery.

And who, if not Detective Gallo, can accept the challenge (and the generous advance of his client)?
For the most cynical and sarcastic detective there is, a case that starts as a trivial domestic accident will turn out to be the most intricate investigation his cactus (!) has ever seen...

Detective Gallo is a point&click comic-noir adventure that is entirely hand-illustrated and hand-animated, and whose protagonist is a feathered and grumpy private eye struggling with a very tricky case, bizarre characters, and puzzles that will put his insight and patience to the test.
A non-violent adventure, inspired to the classical cartoons and the best point&click adventure games of the past!
Play as Gallo, a... rooster noir detective, and investigate on a multiple plant murder!
Meet lots of incredible characters, all hand-animated, frame-by-frame.
Dozens and dozens of logical puzzles and quests!
Listen to over 50 minutes of original pure jazz-noir soundtrack!
Fully dubbed in English and Italian, with multilanguage support!

Brief but enjoyable and funny to the end! Hope they make a sequel.

Some VO are terrible, like you'd be better off without it. As for the gameplay and puzzles as for how slow and random things are: 9 for looks, 5 for experience. You are better off looking up a walkthrough than suffer through this mess. One out of 20 jokes land, which makes it drama, maybe.

So this is part of what is apparently a subsubgenre, of continental European games done in retro-cartoon style with cheesy jokes. This, Detective Case & Clown Bot,  Magret & FaceDeBouc, Mortadelo y Filemón ... these are all so similar there's clearly some seed work out there, like a 70s kids' cartoon or something, but I don't know enough about like, Italio-French pop culture to know what it could be. There's something going on in the romance-language-o-sphere, that's for sure. They certainly have a... brand of humor. That's actually making this sound worse than it was, though. The one thing that's definitely an influence here is 90s adventure games for kids like Putt-Putt and Freddie Fish -- the look, tone, and gameplay are so of this era that it's kind of hard to believe it's a modern game. I can easily imagine myself playing and enjoying this as a 10-year-old. I think I really would have liked it. And that's kind of the upshot here, this really feels like a kids' game. It's not raunchy, thank god, and the jokes can be quite good, unlike in its cousin games, but nonetheless the overall vibe is really of something for children. Like games from that era, it's also extremely obtus…

Translation issues. Jokes don't land or sometimes don't even make sense. I kind of doubt they are funny even in the original language. Can't stand when something, such as the moon, is visible to the character from everywhere on the screen, but the character has to slowly walk to a certain spot to speak the "look" description. The character should stay put and just turn toward the object.

Detective Gallo is a lovingly crafted point-and-click adventure that embraces classic genre traditions while infusing them with a playful, comic-noir personality of its own. Developed and published by Footprints Games, the title places players in the role of Gallo, a cynical rooster private detective navigating a world populated entirely by anthropomorphic characters. From the outset, the game makes it clear that it does not aim for gritty realism, but rather a humorous reinterpretation of detective fiction, where sarcasm, absurdity, and charm coexist with mystery-solving and investigation. The story begins with a seemingly trivial case involving the destruction of rare plants, but it gradually expands into a more elaborate and eccentric mystery. This escalation is handled with a light touch, using witty dialogue and exaggerated situations rather than dramatic twists or dark revelations. The writing leans heavily on humor, parodying classic detective tropes while also poking fun at the conventions of point-and-click adventures themselves. Gallo’s personality is central to this approach; he is self-assured, impatient, and often blunt, which makes his interactions with other charact…
