Disgaea Mayhem

So have been a huge fan of the series sense i found DIsgaea 1 on the ps2 many many MANY moons ago, saw the trailer for this game and instantly put it on my wishlist. Game comes out and well... its just ok. Graphics are pretty nice its quite a jump from the sprite work of the older games and for a 3d world its not bad. However it feels like it lost some personality in the transition as the models feel very copy paste and the enemies are the same with the only real difference being the sizes. Combat... combat feels abit rough, mind you there are many weapons to choose from and for the sake of this section I used the "Axe" family of weapons. Its the standard one button for light attack one button for heavy attack that most games in this era use with the multi hit to combo, one good thing is the ability to animation cancel basically out of any attack with a jump or dodge meaning if you mis position or get surrounded (trust me you will be surrounded) you can effectively escape your own stupidity. However the enemies themselves move as if they are getting fired out of a gun and always, always, ALWAYS go for a flank making it quite tedious to figure out enemy positions and watch for at…

I went in not expecting much seeing the discussion, negative reviews and it not being traditional Disgaea game, but I decided to give the game chance and play it through once on stream and...I actually enjoyed what is here. Starting out seemed not that interesting but once you try and unlock things you realize it has lots more in common with the Tactical RPG Disgaea games that it first leads on, and theres lots to do here, even if the story is a bit short. What I liked about the game? - Lots of mechanics and generic characters from Disgaea games makes it feel familiar. - They brought back Chara World (eventhough pretty simplified). - Story and characters are pretty fun and ridicilous. - Item World feels also more fun and not as tedious or takes as long. - Some of the characters designs are great and I like this games proportions better than the 3D chibis in the previous games. - Lots to do besides the story and lots of levels to gain. - all weapons act differently and it was interesting to try them all out. What I didnt like about the game? - The price tag of 60€ (or $60 USD) is too much for what is here i feel, Id say 40 would have made this more worth the money. - Only one pla…

Fun, and I am interested to see what other Disgaea Games can be made in the future. This is a very fun experiment with reincarnation, and I would love to see different genres approached in the future or made into Disgaea games. Currently just making N.A. into a carnage level super Demon overlord. Then maybe grab that DLC later.

1/5. I love Disgaea in all forms. It is enjoyable, crazy and all around amusing. But in its current state, the game is unplayable for me. I don;t know what it is, but on the initial battle maps several sources of light or reflection blind me. They emit a light so potent it hides the enemies and I can't see where they are or how they are attacking. I will refund it for now, but if it works for you, please enjoy it! I just hope that in the future I will be able to play this because I really, REALLY want to love this.

I mean- it's alright I guess.... Feel like it's a game I can go braindead on, since most of the time I'll spend 99% of the time in the item world grinding. NOT worth the full price, but I still having fun I guess
