About DKLS

You wake up. It's 6:00 a.m.
You find yourself in what seems to be the room of a video games freak.
There is no one else and there is no way out of the room.
The only thing you remember is four letters: DKLS

DKLS is a game that will make you reconsider the way of understanding video games.
With a strong experimental and metaphysical sense, DKLS invites you to question the existing reality in a video game.

In DKLS you can be a person, but you can also be a car, a cactus, a microbe, a penguin or even a pencil.
After playing for a few minutes on the DKLS machines, you will stop feeling your gamer physical reality and begin to feel the virtual reality of DKLS.

Feel the experience of dissociating from your own reality.
Discover DKLS and all that it offers to you.

✦ AI summary

Players have mixed opinions on DKLS, with some praising its creative sandbox gameplay and Portal-like inspiration that rewards experimentation with objects in various rooms, while others criticize its frustrating controls, performance issues, and clumsy handling of mental health themes. The game shows potential as a free escape room experience, but execution issues and unclear mechanics limit its appeal to most players.
DKLS is a free escape room game that proves to be frustrating due to the loose controls and awkward camera angles. You wake up to discover you are in an unknown building and there is no obvious way to escape. Searching the environment reveals you are in a gamer’s bedroom with a lot of equipment and a machine named DKLS. What is this machine and what does it do? Where are you and why have you appeared here? How can you escape? All questions that may get answered if you can get persevere with the awful control system and camera angles. No idea how to play it. However, it's a brilliant home destroying simulator. Flush the game-guide down the toilet, cook a microwave in an oven, or throw a pie and a chair on the strings of a royale and play any melody.

DKLS feels heavily inspired by games like Portal and the Stanley Paradox. I played the game as part of a special stream featuring the lowest-rated games on Steam released in 2021 but this game doesn't belong at the bottom. Even as a sandbox game - playing around with the items in the various rooms was fun. I didn't play much of DKLS, but what I saw I really enjoyed. And of the 15 games we played with the worst reviews on Steam, this was by far and away the best one. Give it a try!

In short, DKLS is a mediocre example of everything that it tries to do. The gameplay is frustrating, the performance issues make it more so, the styling is lacklustre and the handling of the themes relating to mental health is tactless and insensitive. I would not recommend this title to anyone.
