Doll Parts

Doll Parts is a very strange horror game, but I found its approach to its subject matter much more interesting than I expected. I play as a doll trying to help its young owner through an increasingly surreal and frightening experience surrounding puberty. I liked how the game takes something ordinary and turns it into psychological horror without needing a traditional monster to carry the entire story. The gameplay is mainly built around exploration and puzzles. I move through changing environments, look for clues and figure out how to solve problems for the owner. I enjoyed the way the surroundings themselves become more unsettling as her mental state deteriorates. Instead of simply walking through the same type of horror environment, I gradually watch familiar ideas become stranger and more disturbing. The journal pages are another part I liked. Finding them gives me additional context and helps explain what is happening beyond what I can immediately see. I enjoyed searching for these details because the story becomes more understandable when I take the time to investigate rather than simply rushing forward. Hey, this is great little game. It's sad, moving, at times even a little disturbing. The art is very well done, and the writing is very good too. The platforming is a bit awkward as a result of the fixed cameras, but the respawns are convenient. (Note: I managed to soft lock myself at the basement level by dropping the box in the hole, and had to play the level over again.) Overall, an excellent free entry. Good luck to this talented team.

4 out of 10. (7 out of 10 is passing for me) Tech failure. My Game is stuck. It will not proceed past the basement level.[played twice just in case a checkpoint glitch occurred) A lot of polishing is needed.

Good thematics and aesthetic, but buggy and poorly designed levels. You can get back to it, in order to deliver something outstanding ! ^^

A challenging jump-to-the-next-thing kinda game with a great storyline that hits the feels. Highly recommended. 7.5/10
