About Dracula Awakens

Dracula Awakens is a short horror game about Dracula's return to this world.

A world where you desperately need to keep your job. And to do so, you offer to get evidence about the disappearance of a man in Dracula's castle, which was a tourist attraction before the incident.

Since the police didn't care about the immigrant man, you will find out what happened to him.

Welcome to Dracula's Castle

Here you will find:
 • An ancient vampire lord with his wife chasing you
 • Retro style low poly graphics
 • Unique puzzles
 • A castle and catacombs to explore
 • Bats and ghosts to use your super flash camera
 • Multiple endings
 • Manual save in the save room (no newbie-friendly autosave)

Gameplay

Simple and effective as it looks: A camera with a super flash ready to aim and shoot, enemies and your limited medicine to heal if you are surprised from behind.

The Castle

Solve unique puzzles and explore the castle while surviving.

Please note: This game is an experience that can be completed in under 2 hours and is aimed at players who enjoy old school survival horror games.

First of all I wanna make clear that this is not a bad game, it's an all right soft horror game with a heavy focus on puzzles. However considering the review score on steam was 100% until that point, I don't think this game is that good, and especially as a survival horror game which the store page calls it, it fails in my opinion because of the following reasons: -opening door cutscenes (just like in RE1) are so annoying, I feel like half of my game time was watching those -you start with a lot of ammo for your "gun" but then don't find any more ammo during the game -barely contains combat, more puzzle focused -all (regular) enemies die from one shot -when you get hurt by regular enemies, you can simply save in a save room, return to menu and reload the save which then for some reason heals you back to 100% hp -only 1 save slot, also because of that and because the game overwrites your save file at a point where you already made your choice, you have to play through the game at least 2 times to get all endings (which is isn't a big deal though as the game is quite short) -2 boss enemies roam around the entire map which insta kill you on contact, one is unkillable and one takes a …

I had a great time playing this, spooky castles and vampires make everything better. The puzzles were fun, and the art is crunchy but looks absolutely great

My score: 5/10
Overview
I'm all for the retro-PS1 aesthetic, but only when it's done right and supports solid gameplay. Unfortunately, I found Dracula Awakens too clunky, rough, and unfocused. There are several issues, both with the gameplay and the presentation. The one that ultimately made me quit — because I was starting to feel sick — is a visual glitch where the floor seems to “flow” diagonally under your feet while you walk. No amount of fiddling with the video options fixed it. Uninstalled, I'm sorry.
Key Points
[*]
DIFFICULTY:
I don't think I played enough to judge. [*]
PRESENTATION:
Cool concept, poor execution. [*]
STORY:
As far as I can tell, it's a classic, non-intrusive gothic tale. [*]
GAMEPLAY/GAMEPLAY LOOP:
You take pictures of ghosts like in "Fatal Frame" while running from a stalker enemy. [*]
TECHNICAL POLISH:
I've seen worse, but some of the visual bugs are still unacceptable. [*]
MONEYxCONTENT VALUE:
I asked for a refund, so it's a no from me.
EDIT: After reading through other reviews, I decided to try again and see if it grows on me. Also noticed the important items literally glow, so I just need to approach this different than other games. Will update when done. _______________ First, in the introduction, it says to "go to the catacombs". I scanned the entire playable area multiple times and could not find it. So then, I started a new game and chose the "skip introduction" option. And now the main game has serious issues with its design. The level layout is huge, each room has a ton of space and things to look at. And almost everything has a text prompt when interacting. The designs of the rooms are extremely similar, all the details look the same. So finding anything important feels a bit like a needle in the haystack. On top of this, my cardinal sin with survival horror game: THERE IS NO MAP. I could already tell this would be a pretty miserable experience, as I am extremely thorough when playing these games. I will look and interact with every single object, scan every room. And I could tell in this game, that would get extremely tedious - not to mention confusing. My advice going forward is to really keep the…

Dracula says "Solve my puzzles". Once you figure out how to save the game becomes way easier to manage.
