Dragon Chase (2019)

Looks like a runner but feels more like a platformer, a hard and challenging one. You run to the right and try to not get killed by the dragon, traps and enemies. While the screen doesn't move too fast, it moves at the right speed because you require precise movements to not get killed. O yes, you die at "touch" and then restart. Instead of mobile runners, it remembers me to the old nes mario games where the the screen was moving to the right and you avoid stuff. Pros -The game shuffles the obstacles, which makes the game feel fresher but at the same time more challenging. -The enemies have different attack patterns. Ones jump as soon as you land on their platform and strike you from above while others are long range etc. Sounds simple, but with the presure of the screen moving, makes you think twice before approaching. -Good value for the money Cons. -It just released, has a few bugs but nothing game wrecking. -Sometimes you get impatient and stick to the right side of the screen, only to be instakilled by an enemy. Not exactly challenging once you get the hang of it. Unfortunately like many indie games with procedural generation they tend to produce unbeatable combinations ruining your run. I consider that an instant fail on theh game design part so I can't recommend this game.

Casual players may rage but i think the challenge is enjoyable

Dragon Chase is a 3D rendered 2D endless runner with lightweight platformer elements. There's a castle theme as you must run to the right to avoid a dragon, jumping over traps, to see how long you can stay alive. That's all there is to it. The shallow gameplay is accompanied by an equally shallow technical implementation, although the visuals are almost passable and there's even 4K support, the rest of the implementation does not keep up. The game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game, to avoid doing the important job of level/map design. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. It would seem that the game encourages you to score at least 50,000 points to get into the top 22 players, but this is extremely difficult to do. Movement is limited to a single strict line, and the game camera is located on the side.
