Oh boy, I really wish I could give a neutral rating for this one, but in the end of the day, this game is a huge step down from its predecessor Cooking Companions. It aims to widen the lore, worldbuilding and gameplay, but manages to make everything worse, somehow. Everything is WAY too convoluted. Character relationships, character backgrounds, hidden paths in the story. Dread Weight seems to be meant to be played with a walkthrough and explanatory text on your second screen. Heart ratings did nothing for me this time around, since I did not care about any of the characters. The inventory holds either irrelevant objects or things that need to be used precisely at the correct time after stumbling through a precise story path. Without prompts. Playing multiple paths in Cooking Companions felt good - you knew where to go another way and the bits of lore you got were pieces of a cool puzzle; in Dread Weight multiple runs feel like busywork. At one point I simply stopped and did not care about lost bits of story.

Great addition to the series and I enjoyed it. I think it was better than the original.

This game had a more in-depth story than cooking campions and a bit more world building which i always love though I dont really see how this supposed to be a cooking campion sequel seems like a lot of this game can stand on its own but eh still 10/10

It's a really good game. I enjoyed the story, the gameplay is good, and the art is amazing! I would say the story goes by very fast, but that isn't really a problem. Overall great game that I and one of my friends really enjoyed on call. The puzzles are easy if you have the stuff, and it's very replayable.

As someone who was a massive fan of Cooing Companions and waited eagerly for this game's release ... I advise you to temper your expectations of it being as good as the last one, because I personally don't think it is. The story feels a bit rushed and rather confusing on where it's supposed to go or what it's trying to say, there feels like a multitude of missed opportunities with character growth and interactions, most of the alternate endings feel exactly the same so there is very little point in doing them, and do NOT expect the items you collect to be helpful in finding said other endings - the majority of them do nothing at all. (I understand that a house will, realistically, have useless items, but this feels more like a pain in the neck than a cool feature for this game in terms of realism versus expectation.) However ... despite all I find wrong with it ... I cannot deny, this is a Cooking Companions game. The sound design is second to none in terms of how creepy and unsettling it is. The artwork is horrific in the best possible ways. The animations are a lovely step-up even if I prefer the artistic style of the prior games. I adored the mythological aspect and the fe…

I felt like Dread Weight didn't match the original game in terms of atmosphere; the suffocating, hopeless feeling of Cooking Companions wasn't as strong here. Nevertheless, it's definitely a worthy sequel - the story is fun, the inventory system makes the gameplay more complex than that of the first game, the scares are effective and the characters are all very cool. Especially Kurt. I would die for Kurt.
