About Dream Engines: Nomad Cities

Advanced society is long gone, the world is overrun by the Dream Plagues. The only survivors are small nomadic tribes that don’t attract too much attention. And now, the discovery of a long-abandoned project of the ancients lights a new hope - the flight-capable Nomad Cities.

Build an industrious flying city

Your city’s population and economy form the backbone of your survival. Running out of food or resources can be just as dangerous as meeting a Dream Plague in the wilds. Plan and build automated production lines, and keep your people housed, happy and well fed.

Survive until the last moment - then run!

Fortify your city and defend it against raids for as long as you can. But even the ancients were unable to withstand the Dream Plagues forever - the longer you stay, the stronger they become. Unlike the ancients, however, you are able to grab your entire city and just fly away when things become too rough.

Balance expansion and disposable buildings to be left behind

Your city’s area is limited. You’ll have to balance between expensive long-term upgrades to expand your city, and building disposable infrastructure that will be left behind. Carefully choose which buildings you take with you and which you can live without - at least for a while.

Find and exploit scarce resources across different biomes

Resources are rare, and you’ll need a lot of them to turn your city into a self-sufficient empire. Good thing you can always move to another area when you’ve depleted everything around you. Every biome has an unlimited variety of procedurally generated landing areas, that each have different resources, opportunities, and challenges.

Explore the world with a customizable Steambot

The wilderness is swarming with Dream Plagues. To explore your surroundings, you directly control a unique Steam-Bot in real time action. You will upgrade, equip and customize that Steam-Bot to your preferred play style.

Discover ancient ruins

The world is full of ancient ruins and strange mysteries. As you fly and land in different areas, you will discover these places and exploit them. As you progress with story missions, you will discover some of the history and lore of this strange world.

Research, craft, and upgrade your infrastructure

The ancients used advanced Dream-Tech, most of which is now lost to the ages and to the Dream Plagues. In your flying city you will be able to build advanced research facilities and discover some of these secrets - unlocking advanced buildings and new crafting recipes for your Steam-Bot.

Upgrades to your infrastructure provide permanent bonuses and abilities to best fit your preferred playstyle. Spend hard-earned upgrade points on your Steam-Bot’s combat prowess and raid enemy nests for precious resources, on your city’s defenses to build an impenetrable fortress, or on your administrative and economic abilities to build a thriving, rich, mega-factory.

Carefully manage your fuel and weight

Keep a close eye on your city’s weight and fuel reserves. Being stranded at the wrong moment is a sure way to become extinct.

This game is good, and for some weird reason there is a lot of reviews complaining that its not like other games? Like yes, that's the whole point of it being a different game. There is 2 problems with this game, only 1 being permanent, other being a challenge. - Map exploration/clearing is extremely tedious and repetitive/boring/slow. There is practically no way to speed this up at any point in the game. - The learning curve is extremely steep and it does NOT ease you into it. You will find yourself having to start anew multiple times to get the optimal snowball required for how fast difficulty scales. The balance of this game is extremely poor in that respect. Seems most players have been expecting more passive/casual gameplay like factorio and Riftbreaker or like Against the Storm where theres 0 consequence for failing/taking too long on 1 Map to have consequences. Yeah not in this game. However once you get past that learning curve. You can have fun in this game.

I don't know what it is about this game, but it feels very much like AI slop. The portraits are straight out of an AI image generator, and the combat is extremely basic along with the enemies.

Dream Engines: Nomad Cities is a city-building survival strategy game developed by Suncrash and published by Suncrash alongside Gamera Games, blending automation management, exploration, combat, and resource logistics into a distinctive experience centered around mobility. While many city builders focus on constructing massive settlements designed to stand permanently against hardship, this game approaches survival from an entirely different angle. Your city is not meant to remain in one place forever. Instead, it exists as a massive flying fortress capable of lifting off and traveling to safer territory when danger becomes too great. Set within a ruined world consumed by strange corruption and nightmarish threats, the game places players in control of one of humanity’s last hopes for survival. Civilization no longer thrives through expansion alone. Adaptation becomes the most important skill. The hostile landscape constantly pressures players to gather resources, establish production systems, defend citizens, and eventually relocate before overwhelming dangers arrive. That simple idea changes the entire rhythm of city building and creates a strategic identity that feels remarkabl…

While I would love to give this game glowing praise Since I do like it I would give it a 75/100 I can only highlight the positives and negatives and the issues with some of the reviews I read. The positive: -Unique, the concept of moving the base constantly to escape the increasing difficulty is a nice one that forces the player to adapt to new resources and redesign their micro factory to build the things that map can make. -Difficulty, is entirely player dictated with options for most features, you can set the classics like permadeath but also things like base map difficulty rising over time, production speed and much more. The difficulty also only really affects the score you get at the end of a successful or failed run. -The art style is nice, the 3D models look just like the splash art with a touch of Texturing that makes them look weathered or badly painted that reminds me of water colors. The buildings are animated like Factorio if slightly more cartoonishly and with a reliance on smoke for some. The Avatar "Tiny" fits the style of the buildings and enemies, the world looks like it fits to itself. -Tutorial explains what you need to know for basic play. -Story, th…
