More of a "neutral" than a "yes" but putting yes for now. The task-management juggling the game asks you to do is quite compelling. Constantly moving all around a system, choosing where to dedicate your limited resources to accomplish your missions as fast as possible (all levels have a five minute timer). Where it loses me is the meta-game / "world" layer. While you nominally have a selection of missions and factions, functionally there's no depth to the campaign. You cannot favor a particular faction, you cannot influence the direction of the story, you cannot do anything except complete missions in order and buy upgrades to complete missions faster. What starts out as compelling and promising ends up becoming a boring trudge towards the finish, where nothing you do matters (except for achievements, I suppose). At 2 hours in I was really happy with the game, but by 7 hours the limitations dragged the whole enterprise down. If they make another DROP, I think emphasizing the mercenary aspect and allowing you to influence the story and factions through your hacking would be a really cool addition. Whatever ghost of it here is just vibe, but the ghost alone is enough to make me s…5 found this helpful
It is a pretty fun arcade/time management game. It does have a computer-y coat of paint, and the time-management aspect is there, but I would dispute it being a hacking game – it leans way more arcade, and the almost complete liberty it takes assigning IT terminology to its game mechanics and concepts removes any suspension of disbelief that would allow one to "feel like a hacker." It is just a neat little arcade game about jumping between nodes.2 found this helpful
DROP – System Breach is a cyber-themed strategy game developed by Etherfield Studio and published by MicroProse Software that transforms the concept of hacking into an engaging blend of tactical planning, puzzle-solving, and real-time decision-making. Rather than portraying hacking as streams of code flying across a screen, the game presents digital infiltration as a series of interconnected systems that players must navigate intelligently. Set in a future where powerful corporations and underground hacker groups compete for control of valuable information, the story follows an inexperienced hacker whose search for wealth and recognition gradually pulls them into a conflict involving dangerous organizations and secrets hidden within the world's digital infrastructure. The narrative provides enough context to give purpose to every mission without overshadowing the gameplay itself. The core gameplay revolves around infiltrating secure networks by moving through nodes, bypassing security measures, collecting sensitive information, destroying evidence, and escaping before hostile defenses can fully respond. Every assignment becomes a balancing act between speed and careful planning, a…1 found this helpful
I played this game well over 2 years ago now but I remember enjoying it. Plays better with a controller. I played it to completion on my steam deck on a round trip between Portland and Seattle. I feel like it captures the fantasy of hacking without the use of keyboard input and console commands etc. I liked it. If you want to "feel" like a hacker without much investment. Worth it. Note: I am a serial story skipper. No idea if the story is any good. That's something I never care about.1 found this helpful
