Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft Series

Ravenloft: Strahd Dosbox is finely tuned and works very smooth. No bugs so far. Game is in a fine state. I had the original disks (how many were it? like seven or so) but they did not survive the years, so I am happy to have it again (I even still have my manual). I didn't remember how difficult the game is, even when you get full stats for your characters, you die very easily, so playing with lower/realistic stats gives you a good challenge. All in all a great game with a great story although it could use more text and dialogue like earlier titles of the genre. Edit: There are actually quite many dialogues, I just didnt remember. And the dialogues have audio in this edition, which is kinda nice. I would suggest having a sheet of paper and pencil ready to write down notes, there is no way to review missions or hints that the NPCs give you :)

Ravenloft and Stone Prophet DnD games?? I am all in!! I bought these a couple years after they first came out way back in 1995. I was just starting highschool when I got Ravenloft. I played the actual DnD Ravenloft pen and paper module that released in 1983 and loved it. I picked up the 25th Anniversary release years ago. Still love that campaign. As for this game? Pretty solid. If you're old enough to remember game like Dungeon Hack, Shadow Caster or Ultima Underworld(I own all those check em out on GoG) then I think you'll like this Sure the graphics are a bit dated and the movement is a bit clunky but these games are a time capsule. I remember firing these up and in awe how great they looked back then. Lots of voice acting, character interactions, puzzles and great story. To get SUPER nerdy, this iteration of the Ravenloft and Stone Prophet games use the 2nd edition rules, while the original release of the Ravenloft adventure or 'module' as they're called used the 1st edition ruleset then later got a 2nd edition release as a full blown campaign.

At the time that I am reviewing this I have completed Strahd's Possession and am making inroads into The Stone Prophet. I can't stress how good these games are for quite different reasons. Strahd's Possession is a very tight CRPG experience, that makes good use of the AD&D2e game mechanics and Ravenloft setting to try to find something that veered away from being a pure dungeon crawler and into a more balanced experience. Its major downside now is how vanilla it feels compared to a lot of what followed. (From memory of playing this in the '90s) Stone Prophet takes this even a step further, but introducing more varied game mechanics, wild character builds as potential party members, and dialing up a lot of the character interactions to include more puzzle solving. Its major downside is that it leans into some of the worst aspects of dungeon crawling a little too much. Hidden switches and smashing vases has never become so boring. From memory, a lot of the dungeons use palette swapped tile sets and lack a lot of the environmental dressing that was in the previous game so they all start to feel a little samey. It's a still a great game and well worth playing.

Create a party of two adventures and travel to the cursed lands of Barovia. You can recruit up to two additional NPC characters. Ravenloft is more story heavy than other TSR dungeon crawlers. Basically, it's Dracula, DnD style. Comes with the adventurer's guidebook. The HUD isn't as user friendly as EoB, it took a couple of minutes to figure out where the menu is (it drops down when you move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen). Also you can change the movement style from free to fixed by clicking the compass. Fixed is much easier. I haven't played the second game yet, but I am assuming that, like other TSR games, I can import my characters from the first game, so I'm looking forward to continuing the adventure.
