About Empire Earth III

In Empire Earth III you create history.

New to the series, the World Domination mode offers a campaign that not only spans time, but also the entire globe.
Earth is divided into provinces that you can conquer in any order, as you forge your path to total supremacy. Take your empire from fledgling kingdom to dominant superpower as you battle over a realistically rendered planet Earth.
World Domination is at Your FingertipsEmpire Earth III takes the legendary real-time strategy franchise to new heights. Build your empire from one of three distinct factions or create a custom faction of your choosing. Lead your people to supremacy in technology, politics and economy, from the dawn of ancient times through to the distant future. Your quest for total dominance is finally at hand.

Key Features
  • Pick from three customisable factions – or create your own – each with its own unique tech tree, units, structures and gameplay style. Choose from the technically-minded West, the quick-witted Middle East, or the sheer numbers and speed of the Far East.
  • World Domination mode: Choose your starting location and era across a lifelike, persistent globe. Fight across 60 skirmish maps in your quest to conquer the entire Earth.
  • Create and customize your own battlefields with the Map Editor.
  • (Multiplayer notice: Because the official multiplayer servers have been taken offline, playing over the Internet is no longer possible).

When people said Empire Earth 3 was bad, I didn't think it was quite this bad. This game feels more like a bad mod for Warcraft than an Empire Earth game. Much like Empire Earth 2, this game also overhauled a lot of systems and changed the way the game is played. The difference here though is that Empire Earth 3 made everything a lot worse and dumbed down almost every aspect of the game. In case you don't know anything about Empire Earth but know Age of Empires, Empire Earth is much the same, just a lot crazier and with a much wider age progression starting at the stone age and ending in the future. This can lead to some really unbalanced fights, where one party can end up far behind the others technologically, literally throwing rocks at the enemies advanced artillery. This is however what makes Empire Earth so fun. This third game, however, feels and looks more like Warcraft than Empire Earth. All the complexity from the two first games has been stripped away and replaced with an overly simplified system that makes the game incredibly boring. Empire Earth 2 had a total of 15 different Epochs that all offered new technologies, upgrades and some of them new buildings. This game …

To explain for people unfamiliar with this game why there are so many negative reviews. Empire earth is sort of age of empires adjacent in regards to gameplay, it had it's own spins on the formula but that was it's core. But for this game they decided to grab a bunch of features that were popular or new at the time and smash them all together. You no longer pick from a variety of different nations instead they went more asymmetric with only 3 factions, west, east, and middle east and they reduced the historical ages down from more then a dozen to just 5. They also decided to remove all resources such as wood, stone, iron, or food and mash them all into a single resource called raw materials and gold can now only be gained by trade caravans instead of mining. In later ages the game even gives up unit variety to 1 or 2 unit types per building. And they removed all the historical campaigns to boot. Combine all of that with the fact that it had a buggy release and only ever received a singular patch a few days after release and you have a recipe for disaster. The path finding struggles with even small groups of units and the AI even on Hard can sit there and do nothing for an entire g…

When I saw this game back in the store it gave me a rush of nostalgia and that all it is. The game is unplayable and would not recommend getting it at all.

Do not buy this game! It constantly and randomly crashes with no error codes without any note as to why the crash happens. If the crashes did not happen it would work perfectly fine.

This game was crap 19 years ago and still. Would't even get it again, but it was part of the EE pack so I did... I even crashed at world domination after I won a battle. The artsyle is crap compared to the previous games, like they wanted to make a cheap WoW ripoff and toss into the EE. There are a very few resource types, and ages (the original, 1.0 version was even worse with 3 ages). Can't really suggest, unless you really want to nostalgia with it.

I grew up on the first two Empire Earths, so seeing this back on the store hit me right in the nostalgia, but that feeling faded fast. Half my play sessions ended in random crashes with no error, buildings kept showing up completely untextured, and the resolution refuses to go past 1920x1200 like it's still 2007. Beyond the technical mess, everything that made the series special got sanded down: three generic factions instead of real nations, five vague eras with no historical flavor, and an economy so automated there's barely anything to manage. The big battles can still be fun and locking skirmishes to a single epoch salvages a few good hours, but the AI can't even play the Middle Eastern faction properly. Grab the older games instead and only touch this one if it's dirt cheap and you're curious.
