Enter the Dojo is a very straightforward karate action game, but I enjoyed how much it feels like a throwback to older side scrolling martial arts games. I move through linear levels, fight enemies and try to finish each stage quickly while keeping as much health as possible. The scoring system gives the simple combat a little more purpose because speed and survival both matter. The fighting itself is easy to understand. I can attack enemies, move through the environment and focus on clearing each section efficiently. I liked that the game does not overwhelm me with a huge list of moves, because the simple controls fit the old school arcade approach. The time based scoring is probably the most interesting part for me. Finishing quickly is not enough if I take too much damage, so I have to balance aggression with caution. I enjoyed replaying sections with the idea that I could improve my performance rather than simply reaching the end once. The presentation also leans heavily into retro martial arts style. The side scrolling structure and dojo theme give it the feeling of an old arcade beat em up, while the straightforward level design keeps everything moving. I think the game be…
