I contributed to this project before AI was ever conceived. Now every monster, every NPC, every major asset is rife with it. The story is disjointed, nonsensical, and pointlessly grim. Charging $20 for this game is embarrassing: the fusion system is a very poor worse version of the SMT fusion system and is basically inferior to the games it poorly attempts to emulate. If you're looking for a creature collector, look somewhere else.335 found this helpful
The dev banned me from the forums for politely expressing my opinion about why I'm refunding the game. Here's what I said that caused him to ban me: ---------------- I assumed this game would continue to use real art. Like 5 years ago. The art looked awesome and unique. See for yourself: https://www.gameravenreview.com/eternal-exodus And so when this finally came out I immediately bought without investigating. I've been busy with other games and haven't had a chance to really look let alone play it. But just now I decided to look at the reviews and saw this one: https://steamcommunity.com/id/OjamaBinLaden/recommended/1009410/ "I contributed to this project before AI was ever conceived. Now every monster, every NPC, every major asset is rife with it." He continues: "The story is disjointed, nonsensical, and pointlessly grim. Charging $20 for this game is embarrassing: the fusion system is a very poor worse version of the SMT fusion system and is basically inferior to the games it poorly attempts to emulate. If you're looking for a creature collector, look somewhere else." So I did what I should have originally done and examined the latest screenshots and video. And he's right. Th…110 found this helpful
The game is fun and addictive, and full of challenging moments (both fun and rageworthy) where you have to overcome some monsters stronger then your own, and a lot to catch and find too. There's a good mix of sidequests and a beautiful story to follow. There are several different options before you start the game between difficulty, (easy, normal, hard, etc) and thoughtful options to turn off 'flashing lights' for those who are epeleptic. There is also an option to turn on voiceovers which actually add a lot of nice flare to the game, There's a lot of voice lines that are done quite well and give me a giggle. I played the game before release while the solo developer was still working on it. I also provided some QA and feedback before launch. That said, I’ve been following the progress of this game for several years, and I’ve watched the developer spend countless hours putting his soul into it. He still plans on continuing to work on the game after release too, which is great to see. Overall, this game has clearly had a lot of care, passion, and time poured into it and i cant wait to see other nice reviews showing they had a good experience too! Please give me all your aw…27 found this helpful
This game had great potential, but it feels incomplete. Up to around level 20 it is decently fun, but it quickly gets repetitive. Most of your time will be spent grinding exp in order to progress the very short story. Sadly, most of the creature collection is pointless, as there is no way to track which enemies you've seen and since you can only have 4 in your party and 8 in storage, if you don't "register" them manually at your summoning table then you will have to find or fuse them again. A creature collecting game with no bestiary and no large storage is a disgrace to the genre. That said, most of the creatures are useless. You get 2 of your best attackers by level 20 and every new creature is weaker in almost every way. I'm not joking. You get Jack at lvl 14 and Ifrit at lvl 18 and I was still using them when I beat the game because I never found anything stronger. You can't catch or fuse creatures that are higher lvl than your highest lvl creature, which is an awful mechanic that made every new creature feel useless. Some of the creature designs are pretty neat, which makes them being useless really sad. There are maybe 2 shops in the entire game and they sell the same items…10 found this helpful
Great Concept, Awkward Execution
A game is typically comprised of four key elements: Visuals, Audio, Gameplay, and Story. I intend to walk you through each of these elements to address the giant demonic mammoth in the room.
A Visual Mess-terpiece
Let me be clear, there are certainly praiseworthy elements to this game's visuals. The overworld map is serviceable and makes noteworthy areas relatively easy to spot; if you think an iron mine would be at the base of a mountain, that is certainly where you will find it. The areas within the game are all visually easy to navigate and, while perhaps a bit cookie-cutter, serve excellently as a medium by which the story can unfold. The UI, special effects, and menu elements are pretty clear, and important information is easy to find and digest. That is where the visual praise stops. We now get into a crucial part of the monster-taming genre: Character Design. Whether it is the demons themselves or the human characters, cohesion issues and AI influence are abundantly apparent in the worst way. You have battle-hardened leaders with eyes like an anime schoolgirl, character portraits that have mass…5 found this helpful
I just can't with the terrible voice-acting, plus that one early tune with the tonedeaf melody actually made me kinda discombobulated(is that even a word?) just listening to it. Puke, puke, puke. I would love the game if it was text and sound-fx only, I'd even love it with the terrible blablabla-voices of Graveyard Keeper. Game 8/10, Sound and music 2/10.3 found this helpful
