About Eyes in the Dark

Fight with light against the dark in this "roguelight" platformer starring Victoria Bloom!

Drive back the darkness that's overrun Bloom Manor and conquer swarms of creatures as you discover powerful new items to upgrade your arsenal.

Are you ready to enter the ever-changing manor?
Use your flashlight and slingshot to clear the monsters overrunning Bloom Manor and save Victoria’s beloved Grandad, Victor.

Uncover new items that power up your fight and change the way you play, including new gadgets, weapon modules, and upgrades to grow your arsenal for future runs.
The layout and contents of Bloom Manor change with every run -- the further you progress, the bigger and more deadly your foes.

Powerful new perks await within new areas, but require you to choose a corresponding weakness. How will you balance power and difficulty?
Find new items and combine their effects via tinkering to discover surprising synergies.

Will you throw Matches that burn your enemies or finish them off with an Electricity Bulb that chains to multiple monsters? Should you upgrade the flashlight to do more damage or increase its range? What gadget better suits your style: double-jump or slow-time?
Face off against powerful (and gigantic) Guardians and retake Bloom Manor from the darkness by completing quests to unlock the secrets of Victoria’s eccentric family, then use their quirky gadgets and contraptions to cast a guiding light into Victoria’s future.

Darkness watches close One small light defies the fear Dawn breaks through the void

This game has so much visual charm to it. I had far too much enjoyment simply spinning the flashlight around like a baton twirler and roasting dark creatures. The game is comfortably Medium difficulty. The bosses are different from each other, but can feel a tad fragile once you pick up some damage items. Though I prefer that over enemies being damage sponges. The game leans into you repeating runs to drip feed you lore, similar to Hades. I really enjoy the music in this game personally.

The movement is so stiff here, oh my god! Whenever Victoria jumps, she's lifted in the air at a static speed, stays afloat for half a second, and drops down, again, at a static speed; jumping off of ropes is always done in a concrete cardinal direction with no arc; the dodge dash just immediately teleports her in a horisontal direction and halts all momentum for a quarter of a second! This legit feels like what the haters say Hollow Knight feels like, stay away if you hate getting used to things! Also the writing is very weak, everything that's said in this game either is empty exclamations and stating the obvious, or could've been simply shown rather than told, like the entire tutorial section, or how
when you first fail a run and the watch sends Victtoria back in time, you could've just had her look at the watch to let the player pick up on how it was what made this happen.
That stings especially in the intro cutscene where, in imitating the silent film thing of showing the said lines on title cards, the intensity and urgency is completly undermined by it cutting off to single word exclamations! Gameplay's pretty fun tho
