Fit for a King is a cute and funny little retro-style game, though unfortunately quite short. Despite the RPG aesthetic, in practice it plays more like an adventure game. The game world is pretty small, though, and you'll probably spend no more than 4-5 hours on this one even if you explore every nook and cranny and grab all the achievements. IMO it's not quite worth the full price, but I do recommend getting it on sale (you can often find it for 70-80% off). Note: I played this game mostly offline, so that's why my displayed playing time is so short.

Extremely charming. Feels like a love letter to Ultima.

best to buy discounted at $2 at the time of writing this review. you'd think there'd be more utility for the 26 commands, but nah. the fun caps off when you try terms for the dialogue and find limited depth. if you're king, why do you have to do so many things on your own? I'd like to be able to call up people to the throne room instead of having to visit them one by one, which ruins replayability. the whole summit explains the game is for extravagant show. It's a trinket you pick up and say, "Huh, neat," and then move on.

Short and published by Kitfox Games, is a compact historical sandbox simulation that places players in the extravagant shoes of a Tudor-era monarch. Set in England in 1520, the game blends satire, exploration, and open-ended command systems into a deliberately retro-styled experience. Rather than focusing on strict historical accuracy or deep strategy mechanics, it invites players to experiment with royal authority in absurd and often hilarious ways. The premise revolves around preparing for the legendary Field of the Cloth of Gold summit, where you must outshine your rival monarch through wealth, spectacle, and prestige. To accomplish this, you roam your kingdom collecting taxes, uncovering treasure chests, and issuing royal decrees. The world is compact but filled with interactive elements, secrets, and eccentric characters. Your authority is expressed through a list of commands that allow you to marry, execute, knight, tax, reform religious policy, and much more. These commands are not merely cosmetic; they actively reshape your kingdom’s state and unlock new interactions. Mechanically, the game channels classic tile-based …
