About Reigns

✦ AI summary

Rule a medieval kingdom by swiping left or right on advisor requests, balancing the church, army, people, and treasury while managing unpredictable consequences that can topple even the mightiest dynasty. Each decision ripples across centuries with branching storylines involving political intrigue, witchcraft, and dark supernatural forces, while a haunting Disasterpeace score underscores your reign's elegant, hand-drawn presentation.

Sit on the throne as a benevolent (or malevolent) medieval monarch of the modern age and swipe your royal controller either left or right to impose your will upon the kingdom. Survive the seemingly never-ending gauntlet of requests from your advisors, peasants, allies, and enemies while maintaining balance between the influential factions of your kingdom. But beware; each decision you make might have implications and unfortunate consequences down the road that could put your reign and family’s dynasty at risk!

An Unpredictable Kingdom: Each year of your reign brings another important – seemingly random – request from your unpredictable kingdom as you strive for balance between the church, the people, the army, and the treasury. Prudent decisions and careful planning make for a long reign but unforeseen motivations, surprise events, and poor luck can take down even the most entrenched monarch.

Dynasty Expansion: Extend your reign as long as possible, forge alliances, make enemies, and find new ways to die as your dynasty marches along through the ages. Some events will span on centuries, with an intrigue involving burning witches, scientific enlightenment, wicked politics and, maybe, the Devil himself.

Royal Challenges: Achieve specific goals set before you at the start of your reign to cement your legacy and unlock new cards and content within the kingdom.

Eclectic Presentation: An inspiring score from Disasterpeace compliment elegant gameplay and a bold art direction for a sublime experience as you rule over your people.

Very hard for me to give a positive score to this one but I'll tell you this - it may look quite enticing to play through this game in one or a couple of sittings, but please take your time with Reigns. Otherwise, the repetitiveness and RNG-induced frustration will kill you, trust me. Especially the latter. That being said, some things I enjoyed: - The black and absurd humor - Game rewarding you with new events, characters and cards from time to time, for that sweet dopamine hit - Ways of dying being one of the collectables and mechanics of this game (still haven't figured them all out) - The simplicity of it all: it's either swiping left or right to choose your action and move on with the story If you're ready for a game that will do everything in its power to discourage you from going forward due to intentionally bad and absurd RNG (think Darkest Dungeon but you can see it from a mile away and there's absolutely nothing you can do to prevent it), then go for it.

No matter what I tried, I just couldn't keep my kingdom together for more than 45 years. My own army betrayed me, the Church got too powerful and the merchants somehow ended up running the country because of poverty. I'd like to apologize to my people here and announce my retirement as a king who never stopped trying. Jokes aside, the game is really fun and the choices you make keep every run interesting. It's definitely worth the price. Overall a 7.3/10.

I get it more than I did at first, which was not much at all. But it’s still not more fun than just an idle in the background kind of game. I got it on deep discount and I still wouldn’t buy it again for that.

I'd recommend playing it for ~2hrs and then cutting loose once the severe diminishing returns kick in. Fishing for specific events & RNG to get the good ending requirements becomes a repetitive chore. +the concept is fun & entertaining for the first few hours +it's cheap and runs on anything -the effects of certain decisions are not intuitive & some seemingly major decisions never have downstream consequences -there aren't enough unique scenarios & conversations. Throughout one full playthrough you will see the same situations many (many) times over -due to the large RNG nature of the game, getting the good ending requires luck

I played a clone of it before on mobile, and honestly it fits that medium way more than pc. Boring
