Fragmented is mostly a single player game. Players will have the option to host their own servers as well and tweak many of the settings to provide an easier experience or a much more harsh experience including hardcore options.

- Ranged provides bonuses in ranged combat, and allows creation of ranged weapons and grenades.
- Refining is used to process raw materials, unlocks harvestables, and creates tools.
- Subsistence reduces the effects of hunger and thirst, and allows the creation of foods, drinks or medical compounds. It also includes genetic engineering on the high end.
- Survival increases your health and allows the creation of traps, torches, and campfires, as well as basic tools and waterskins.
- Textiles is used to create armor, clothing, pouches, and backpacks.

The devs of "The Repopulation" gave this game out for free to testers after the Repop was mothballed (it had been shaping up to be pretty good at the time too). "Fragmented" is still in my library, and in 2026 the offline mode still works. There are no servers for online play and I'm not sure if setting up a local server is still possible. The game itself is not bad as far as it goes. That's about it. I can't recommend buying unless you're getting it for a very low price and are aware that this game is not actively supported any more.5 found this helpful

Fragmented, developed and published by Above and Beyond Technologies, is a science fiction survival game that places players on a hostile alien planet where every decision becomes a matter of life and death. Designed as a standalone offshoot of the ambitious but ill-fated MMO *The Repopulation*, it inherits many of that project’s systems and aspirations while narrowing its scope to focus on crafting, combat, and survival. The premise is straightforward but immediately gripping—you awaken as one of the last survivors of humanity, stranded on an unfamiliar world teeming with alien wildlife, environmental hazards, and the remnants of a fallen civilization. With nothing but rudimentary tools and your own ingenuity, you must gather resources, craft equipment, and slowly rebuild a semblance of stability in an unforgiving environment. At its best, Fragmented captures the sense of isolation and resilience that defines great survival games. The world feels vast and dangerous, filled with strange creatures that stalk the terrain, each biome introducing new challenges and materials. "The Repopulation," was an old MMO that is no longer available. "Fragmented" was intended as filler when ABT, the original developer, closed down "The Repopulation" while they were looking for a buyer. This game has a beginning but no end. There's no point to it, no reason to continue playing. There are no live servers but you apparently can still host locally, so you could play with friends but one of the game's most satisfying activities was destroying and looting abandoned structures and as a solo game, you can't do that. Its lone appeal is that you can cruise around, build fortresses or construct highways for the god-awful vehicles in the game, so it's a pleasant enough time-filler.
