✦ AI summary

Players praise Freakout's stylish arcade action, enemy designs, self-aware humor, and brisk 3-hour campaign length, making it an entertaining indie shooter experience. However, complaints center on repetitive gameplay that drags in places, punishing difficulty scaling that outpaces player progression, poor optimization, and the argument that single-player feels tedious compared to co-op play. The game's charm appeals to those seeking straightforward top-down shooter action, though some feel it lacks the depth or immediate reward factor of similar titles.

3 hours is all it takes to beat this game, and its totally worth it! I do think the gameplay can get a bit repetitive and could be shorten in a few sections, but again, its only 3 hours long so nothing drags till infinity. I do think this game has its charm, the excellent enemy designs, levels (which peak at the last chapter) and story are strengths which I think are worth mentioning. Sure, the dialogue might not be for everyone, as its quiet self aware and nothing serious, but I think it adds to the experience. So yes, I do recommend this game if you want some simple shooting bad guys and are open minded towards indie games

Freakout: Calamity TV Show is a ferocious, arcade-driven action title that embraces excess in both theme and execution, delivering a relentless top-down shooter experience wrapped in dystopian satire. Developed by Immaterial Studio and published by Immaterial Studio alongside Plug In Digital, the game drops players into a grim near-future where survival is entertainment and violence is broadcast as prime-time spectacle. Framed as a deadly television show run by a ruthless megacorporation, Freakout turns its arenas into stages, its enemies into ratings fuel, and the player into an unwilling star fighting to escape the system. The moment-to-moment gameplay is built on classic twin-stick shooter fundamentals: precise movement, constant aiming, and an unbroken flow of enemies pouring into compact arenas. Controls are tight and immediately readable, which is essential given the speed at which encounters escalate. Waves arrive quickly, often from multiple directions, and demand constant repositioning to avoid being overwhelmed. Enemy variety keeps the pressure high—some rush recklessly, others attack from range or explode on death—forcing players to read patterns and adjust on the fly. …

If you like top down shooters with no melee weapons :(. Then you'll enjoy it.

This looked neat so I really wanted to enjoy it. However, it's all punishment and no reward. The enemies scale, and rather quickly; however, you don't. It feels like a copy and paste of templates from the Unity store without any understanding of why people actually play (and buy) games. A recommendation for improvement: Look at 20 Minutes 'til Dawn. (Debatably) Ugly as sin. No dialogue. No tutorial. Just raw gameplay that is immediately rewarding and enjoyable to continue. It's charm is apparent the first minute in, and would have to be because otherwise why bother? Plus for some reason this game is terribly unoptimized and pushed my rig way more than it should've despite not doing much. This could be a great game--the bones are there--but it needs a complete re-work from the ground up.

actually pretty fun, entertaining and playable title :) there's just one thing - you have to play it in co-op mode with a friend, otherwise single player is kinda boring and repetetive
